I work at a Museum and am a tour guide for one of the main exhibits. This exhibit has a wait time, like at amusement parks. People have to wait in line for the next tour- we only take 20 at a time. I had worked there for only a month, and every day I would get the same stupid questions: "Is this exhibit new?", "Do we have to be waiting in line, or can we come back later?". I mean how dumb can you be? Why would you be able to come back to a line? Don't these people go to amusement parks? You can't do that waiting for a roller-coaster, why would you be able to do that here? Anyways, finally I couldn't take it. A couple asked me if they could come back later, and I said "What do you think, are you stupid?" They seemed insulted and reported me to my supervisor. He later fired me for snapping. My thing is- I had every right to tell those idiots that. They should know better then to ask a dumb question like that.

To start with, it is a common question because there are times when the line lets up (say around lunch time) all you had to do was say "No, it's like this all the time". Secondly, your boss is in business to earn money - part of which is used to pay your salary. If people walk away from that establishment feeling like someone was rude to them, do you think they are going to renew their $500 per year membership or actually come back to stand in line again? Your boss did the only thing he could do. I am guessing they were members, because otherwise he might have been able to be lenient and give you a warning - but honestly, that was like a pms moment from hell. Are you stupid? No, you never say that to a customer, though you might think it sometimes. Better luck next time.
Peace!

Part of any job is following rules, whether they make sense to you or not. There are some jobs that have fewer rules, but you generally can't insult customers, even the ones who are not too bright or downright insulting themselves. Maybe you need something that allows a little more freedom. Do you listen to those djs on the radio? They insult people daily and the public eats it up.

It was the museum's best interest to fire you. Your position as a tourist guide was important because you were a frontliner or was the one whom the people who go the museum interact with. A bad attitude the someone with this position will be bad for the museum and will not secure a repeat visit.

There's a way to tell people they're stupid w/out outright using the word stupid. There is always a way to tell people off w/out being rude. You were rude. They were customers and you insulted them. It's not your job to speak the truth it was your job to assist the customer. Any job w/ the public you're going to be asked some really stupid questions at some point but they don't seem stupid to the asker.

I guess the line to complain about snippy girls was shorter than the line for the ride. You should ask yourself how much you enjoyed saying what you said and whether it was worth it.
If you plan to let all the stupid people in the world know about themselves, you are going to be awfully busy and awfully unemployed.

wow, you really said that?
You can't talk to customers like that. I cringed just reading what you said, and your non-chalant attitude.
Yes, people ask stupid questions, but just think for a minute.
What if a doctor called his patients stupid (and im sure all doctors want to), or if your waitress called you stupid for asking a question about something on the menu? Would you report them? Probably would.

Disneyland allows you to check into a ride, then come back when it is time for you to enter the line. YOU are a jerk. You are rude and self-centered, and definitely on the road to Nowhereville, you are taking the express road, in fact. Grow up, and do what you are hired to do, not thinking up ways to save your own energy.
No sympathy.

Good for you. You can probably sleep better now that you don't have to hold it all in. I used to do tech support but quit because there are way too many stupid people with the same stupid questions. I couldn't handle it. But that's awesome, not many people can do what you did. Most would just live through it and be miserable.

You are paid to put up with it. You are paid to make sure you inform them that they are not able to come back to the line later. You were fired for perfectly good cause.
