Though some people might say that disease and pain helps us understand the bright side of life (which I find sadistic), I think it's downright detrimental and devastating. Emotional turmoil is enough for us humans to bear. That's why I so highly support science and stem cell research.

That is a very good wish, and not a fantasy at all, and I have to tell you that any answers outside the Word of God would indeed be very useless. Nobody or power can guarantee that. sickness, sorrow, suffering and death will always be in this world until the end of time.
Only after this world is cleansed with fire, which at the same time destroy the root of evil, which is the devil and his followers will there be a world without problem and pain.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.[c] 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
(2 Peter 3:19-13)
1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John,[a] saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:1-4)
