i know you asked for the 5th edition, but i have to say the original is the best. I have been looking all day today for the same thing. I had no luck til about an hour ago. I found the original at this site. http://stevedanforth.com/document/397
it took me a while to get it up because i was following the directions giving. but, i found that if you extract the files and open the Oregon application it just comes on. the only thing is that you cant, well i cant figure a way to put it on the desktop as a shortcut, but other than that it, it works fine, other than some noise when you look at the pictures, but that's nothing when compared to the game you didn't have to pay for.
I also found a strategy, walk-through here:

I know this isn't the 5th edition but i hope you enjoy this one.

You can also pick up copies of the game from Ebay. They are for sale regularily.

If you want older versions, they are available online as well. I've posted the links to these versions on answers lots of times. Just do a search for Oregon Trail Online and you'll find them.
