Habits are difficult to change because they have been repeatedly done and so have inculcated into the person's daily systems of being and doing.

Because they are HABITS! Look you would be dead if you had no habits. A habit is just something that you have done over and over so that you know it so very well. Walking is a habit. Talking is a habit. You want to learn to dance well? You better develop a habit, as in practice, practice.

So why are they hard to change, because you know how to do it so well, it feels "natural" and to not do it feels "unnatural".

And we like to feel comfortable, it is only when we have a goal for something that we will break with an habit and try something new, and then that will most likely be our next habit!

Some habits are learned for a reason. I remember a couple of girls from my school were killed in a car accident (both in the same car), and I've worn a seat belt every time I get in a car since then. I also remember one time walking by my front door to see a man lurching around on my front porch, now I lock both locks.

None of these things are something I consciously choose to do. They are habits, though good habits. Your body has reasons it does these things. Sometimes they are life-preserving.

You can change your habits. But for that you will need a great willpower.

Also a person does not carry a habit through his entire life. The habit changes from one type to another.

well, that all depends on you. to change habits it takes time. you have to lose the bad habits. you have to make a good habit to replace that bad habit. you must lose that feel or feel of desire of the bad habit. in order to do that(which isn't easy) show desire and interest and positive attitudes to the good habits. sticks on that new good habit that you just made very constantly. let that good habit be something very common in your life. take your mind off trash things like bad habits. just think positive in life not negative. throw that negative in the trash. just pray to god to help you lose a habit. talk to someone like your parents a friend or an adult or friend you trust. good luck!

Habits can be changed, but typically, the behaviour in question must be consistently applied for at least three weeks to become part of your character. Quitting smoking is harder because there is a substance addiction as well, but the behaviours surrounding that vice can be modified to make quitting easier. For example.. if you are used to having a cigarette and a coffee with breakfast, try switching to tea, or milk and not smoking with breakfast. After three weeks, you will find that breakfast is no longer associated with a cigarette. Driving...some people simply cannot put their car into gear until they have lit a cigarette. Forcing yourself to quit that pattern for three weeks will free you.

We are creatures of habit. We like familiar patterns and resist change, but if we are motivated,,,we can do it!!

It depends on how deep the rut is and now much energy or emotion is in the habit.
Habits are being on "automatic" where the intelligent brain is free to do other things. Take away the automatic and we would be insane.
We have defenses and resistance to change and they seem to serve us well most of the time. Sometimes not.
Working away from something will take us 360 degrees. Put most of your effort into an alternate route rather than avoiding the old one. Role play and rehearse the situations with as much emotion as you can.

Habits are hard to break because they are a behavior we have learned over time. Habits are only bad if they interfere with your life and your happiness. To break a habit you need to itensely work at it for at least two weeks. It takes two weeks of behavior modification to change a negative behavior in to a positive one.

because ur mind stores everything and sends signals at an appropriate time that it is time for this habit and that, so on.
one should develop control over mind, then its easy for him to leave any habit.good or bad.
but try not to leave good habits, though it is painful to others.
HABIT- IF U JUST LEAVE 1/5TH OF IT ALSO U WILL BE LEFT WITH A BIT, FURTHER IF U LEAVE IT 1/4 OF IT ALSO U WILL HAVE BIT. AGAIN IF U REMOVE 1/3 OF IT THEN ALSO IT IS THERE.
SO TILL LAST U HAVE TO STRUGGLE FOR IT TO REMOVE.
