This reminds me of a guy I used to know. He had a German Shepherd, kept him outside most of the time (confined to the yard) and when he was inside was kept in the corner. This poor animal was treated like a toy, yelled at if he walked out of his corner.
How cruel is that? I would disagree though with setting domesticated pets free like dogs or cats who will get lonely, lost, or run over by a car. I would never take an animal from the wild as a pet though, I am against that totally. People who do that are careless and meddlesome.

No. Cats need to be kept inside to prevent them from being run over, getting attacked by other animals or catching diseases. Birds can't be set free, they'll never survive. I live in a very woodsy area. With all the deer the chances of them catching the deer wasting disease is very high. We have domesticated certain animals so to say set them free would simply be cruel. they can't hunt for survival they expect to be warm, fed and comfy on a bed or couch.

some dogs are bred to be lap dogs which stay in the house. They could not survive outside unless they had a very good fence, dog house, etc. My dog is extremely happy being in the house. He is a tiny poodle and he goes everywhere with me. We have way too many dogs and cats running around free.

Set our pets free? They wouldn't last more than a few hours out there.

Absolutly. my bosses never let their cat out. what is the point of having one?/ it is cruel!!
I let my cat come and go as she pleases and she needs to go out in nature (forested property) she ain't running away.
