No non-apple mp3 player can synch with songs that you purchased from itunes. Also, you can't transfer songs directly from itunes to any non-apple mp3 player, but if you have something like windows media player or I think Real player, you can use those to synch. Another thing to consider is that many mp3 players can't play aac files, which I think is the default ripping format for itunes, so you might need to use itunes to convert these back to mp3s, which will work with any player.
Here is a link to reviews of budget mp3 players, it should be very helpful.

You can probably use most any MP3 player with itunes as long as you keep all your song formats in .mp3 but if your ripping your cd's into itunes it automatically converts the music to aac format which is apples special format for the ipod.. So you will need to convert all the songs you rip to .mp3 format and you should be able to use another MP3 player with it.

DOES NOT EXIST. Apple Computers only allows iPod centric devices to work with iTunes (ie. shuffle, nano, iPod with video (30GB, 60GB, 80GB). Look for an announcement from Apple about their next generation products to be introduced on Tuesday Jan. 6th from their MacWorld convention.
