I believe that he should have stayed in jail for the rest of his life; I think that by him being executed, he doesn't have to suffer! I believe that he was an unholy man, ridden with sin and hatred. What are everyone's views on this?

What I meant by saying that he didn't suffer is that he could've lived the rest of his life out on this earth, tormented with the thought that he did so many terrible, inexcusable things. I agree when someone says that he is horrible; he killed so many innocent people!

To Gray-

I agree with you 100%- If he died naturally, say in 5 years, (in a jail cell; he was 69), wouldn't that be better? To suffer here on earth longer, and THEN go to Hell?

Death was the only way.
Two reasons.
1) Saddam had no conscience, so letting him stay in jail for God knows how many more years, at the taxpayers expense, would have made no difference at all. He was a psychopath, somebody who doesn't understand the meaning of right and wrong.
2) Iraq is a primitive society with medieval laws. The people of Iraq who had been abused by Saddam for the whole of their lives, simply don't understand the western philosophy of letting someone sit in jail and 'think ' about their crime. The people of Iraq demand retribution. An eye for an eye, it's part of their culture.
Anything less than hanging would have been a sign of weakness.

Wow mostly everyone here says he deserves to be killed.. IF he was the president of the United States yes he deserves to be killed or whatever but hes not he was the Presiden of IRAQ and the reason he died today was because of the murders of those 148 people who tried to kill him at first so his reaction was to murder those people it was his country and in a dictatorship thats what happens... Iraq is in turmoil now and our troops are dieing for no reason at all obviously saddam had no threat to the united states not one nuclear or biological weapon was found so we shouldnt have been there in the first place. Now we are trying to win a fight that we cannot win we took away the one thing that held up sunni and shiiites from killing each other and worst of all our troops are dieing men and women who are part of the working class of america are dieing for absolute no reason. Killing saddam did absolutely nothing for AMERICANS all it did was make happy shiiites who dont give a **** about us anyway so im still trying to understand why all you americans are so happy saddam died? it means more of our troops will die thats all and nothing else....we should be focusing more on osama bin laden... thats all i have to say

Why should he not have to suffer???? all the innocent people that he killed suffered......he should be treated no better than he treated them!!! let him hang..........

and i cant beleive that u would be so naive as to think that if he spent the rest of his life in jail that he would be "tormented" by thoughts of what he had done...ha! that man did not care what he done to those he killed and im sure they never crossed his mind and surelythey didnt torment him.......get real!

And one more thing......why do people keep talking as if the USA were the ones that executed him??? the iraqis are the ones that tried, convicted, sentenced, and executed him..not us!

He should have been shot in the knees and beaten with long sticks.

You have no idea what he did to his own people. He killed them by the thousands, and is probably the closest this generation will see to a modern day Hitler.

His son is no better. Uday liked to rape "the townsfolk", and if you argued, your family member would be hanging from a pole in the morning.

Saddam's reign is a cancer, and his life isn't worth the pain and suffering and torture he caused.

Did he deserve to die? Well, of course he did!
I do agree with you on principle that, if my goal is to prolong his suffering, life without parole, secluded from any supporters, is the most bang for the buck.

On the other hand, Saddam is the type of prisoner that will get martyred and used in negotiations. People will create acts of violence and hostage taking in order to obtain his release. That leaves us with his execution as the method most likely to further the cause of rebuilding. There is likely, of course, to be initial violent reprisals for his death.

I believe the United States hides behind the logo "and justice for all." Meanwhile, the slaughtered are in their graves, and Saddam is as well. He committed horrendous acts of violence and ethnic cleansing. Perhaps claiming his life was justice, or semi-justice for what he did. Nothing will bring back the murdered women, men and innocent children. And now, to top it off, all mayhem is going to break loose and open the door for more bloodshed. He was human, and his power went to his head. His cruelty, though unjustified, we will never know a day in his shoes. We will never be able to pick his brain. And worse yet, American troops, as well as other nationalities will continue to die in mass numbers under the jurisdiction of a tyrant: George W. Bush-undercover mass murderer. When is his execution set for?

I think it was best he was executed. Now, if only they'd execute more people so those bastards don't get cable TV, Xbox, better weight facilities than most military bases, and more free time than they need. By the way, by your own opinion, you seem to be religious. If that's the case, wouldn't you believe he burns in hell for the rest of eternity or something?

i think of the kangaroo courtroom would desire to be disbanded and/or George Bush would desire to stand trial alongside him. nonetheless, it somewhat isn't any ask your self that lots of listed below are salivating on the possibility of a loss of life sentence being performed, while they parrot what they have heard without bothering with info. as a results of fact the object mentioned, he became sentenced for 148 deaths after an assassination attempt, and is CHARGED with genocide interior the deaths of Kurds. The latter could be annoying to prosecute in a real courtroom of justice, pondering the Kurds in question have been attempting to overthrow a central authority, that mentioned government became supported on the time via the US, and that the gassing became performed below U.S. auspices and with U.S. information, and became linked with a war that the U.S. helped to hold forth and became instrumental in. Hussein very almost unquestionably merits the loss of life sentence, however the thirst for blood and the readiness with which some human beings abandon the innovations of justice human beings want to be basic for is somewhat disgusting.

It matters not what we think but as long as the sovereignty of the nation is intact and observed, it is fine and acceptable.

Different cultures require different forms of treatments.

In any case with regard to your branding of Saddam as "unholy, sinful and hateful", on what academic or scholarly basis are you stating these from?

If anything, I think he suffered the shame that was brought upon his country by the illegal invasion of US.

Death is but a passage of time but humiliation to one's pride and reputation is eternal. In addition, you also have to access it from a cultural point of view.

Check out the Abu Garaib situation. To put panties on a Muslim's head or to make him perform a fellatio on himself is an act worse than death itself.

While the errant US/UK soldiers get custodial sentences for wrongful treatment of POWs, these Muslim men will live out their lives eternally humiliated by one mindless act.

Yeah scumbag got what he deserved. If he would of gone to jail he would have been isolated from general population and you know he would figure out a way to get some of the things he wants.
