Since your question is bout "peer-to-peer" then a router doesn't come into play here.

You need to set up both devices, for example both laptops, so that they use an ad-hoc wireless connection. If security is being set up, then they should have the same security setting. Once that's done, then each machine should be able to see the other and it would be just like if a cable were connecting the two.

if you are talking about setting up a wireless connection, then first you need to have the wireless router. You then need to set up your wireless router which is a bit of a pain if you do not know how to do it. But if you follow the directions it should be ok. After that you have to make sure that your other computers can connect to the router wirelessly. (wireless cards). I would also suggest that you put a password on your router and not use the typical "admin" name "admin" password. Also I suggest you use a "Mac filter" which enable only certain computers to be on your network.

I also believe you can transfer files and stuff like that if both computers have bluetooth.

For ad-hoc only you should also click on the Advanced tab and select "computer-to-computer (adhoc) networks only"
