They should be way higher, because they pt out products that have the potential to great harm to a great many. They are in fact systematically poisoning our lakes, streams, and oceans. Our air is so polluted that respiratory diseases and asthma becoming the norm in children and everybody knows very soon the earths climate is going to change and it is going to be bad. Mass flooding followed by mass drought.
Then who ever when ever granted corporations the same rights as an individual that was the most flagrant irresponsible Bush move if I ever seen one. They Can't have the right of an individual, because the don't take accountability as an individual. A cooperation poisons and kills a thousand people leaving another two thousand maimed for life, you will never see an individual stand up explain what happened accept responsibility, then make restitution.

I completely agree that corporations should be held to the same moral standards as individuals. Lets take the corporate check for example. Say I wrote a check to a vendor, signed it and delivered it in exchange for goods. Shouldn't that money be available in the bank at the time the check was delivered? After all I did receive goods for my checking draft.
A person who signs the corporate check MOST OF THE TIME and in MOST STATES, can not be held criminally responsible for the check of it comes back as insufficient funds. The vendor that received the bad check is out of goods and services, right? Why shouldn't they be entitled to collecting on the check as they could with an individual? After all the vendor did receive a fraudulent check.
That's just one example and I have many many more.

Yes they should. But so many corporations today are run without anyone being accountable for the decisions that are made. And more and more people are choosing to start corporations instead of traditional family owned or privately owned businesses. It limits liabillity yes, but it also allows for those in charge to be less accountable for their actions which means that standards and morality don't apply. Personal responsibility doesn't exsist in a corporation.

I think your question involves accountability of corporate officers and the fact is that they are held to the same moral and ethical standards as individuals- they are individuals "hiding" behind the "company" if the "puppet-master is found to have acted unethically or illegally, the corporate veil is no longer able to protect him/her. Good Question!

They should be held to higher standards. A corporation, due to it's size and reach, is able to contribute much more 'good' or much more 'evil' in the world than one individual ever could.

When "corporations" commit the same crimes as "individuals," then yes. But "corporations" are often guilty of committing different crimes than "individuals." The system does not punish all crimes the same way and to the same degree, of course.

Absolutely. Corporations literally get away with murder. Companies that make items like cigarettes kill with impunity. A CEO who steals $1 billion is less likely to get jail than a kid who robs a liquor store for $100.
