I have done alot of research into this for my own personal benefit. What it really comes down to is what is the best brand of marker for YOU!
Though through my searches I have 2 great entry level markers I could recommend.
1st. Smart Parts Ion
Despite the fact that I've played for 5 years and have a matrix i still bought one of these. It's a really fun marker too! I bought mine when they first came out so it's a lil wimpy compared to the versions up for sale nowadays. Especially since you can buy the custom markers designed by professional teams. The Ion is a rather inexpensive marker I got my at full price of $225 when they first came out. I've seen them going for $150 or less since.
First you must understand that most tippmanns and a large portion of spyders are Pneumatic markers meaning their operations are based solely on the air pressure from your tank. The Ion is based on electronics which will inherently make it a faster marker.
Not sure what the base boards are now adays but when i bought mine it was 15 balls per second semi auto and 10 full auto. The marker has several modes. Regular semi auto, 3 round burst, Turbo (which essentially is 2 shots a trigger pull. 1 on the pull and 1 on the release. takes a few pulls before it's initiated though.) and full auto. You will find that very few organized fields will allow any mode other then semi auto so don't count on those unless you'll be playing at a friends house (those modes waste paint anyways).
Another nice feature is that the Ion will work with either CO2 or HPA air systems. Though if you purchase a CO2 tank you must install an Anti-Syphon. The anti-syphon only costs 7 to 10 dollars and most paintball shops will install it when you buy the tank. The HPA requires nothing but a lil fine tuning of your High Pressure Regulator. The stock regulator works ok, though if you play for a while and decide you really want to continue I would recommend a new regulator as an later upgrade. For which, spyders used to be the upgrade kings. Anything and everything could be upgraded, in my opinon it's lost that title to the Ion. There are alot of things you can customize on the Ion. Any where from it's color to the bolt, the board, the feedneck, EVERYTHING!!!
(Edit here)
I forgot to add that the Ion uses low pressure to cycle the bolt and therefor has excellent gas conservation. Also it will allow you to play with the brittle tourney paint (Softer easier to break shells) without breaking them in the marker. You cannot use tourney paint in a Spyder or tippmann.
(End Edit)
As the list of benefits of the ion would take forever to finish I'd like to touch on one other component of this marker. The "Eyes". The Ion comes standard with a set of Lasers that go across the breech of the marker. Until a ball falls into the breech severing the laser beam the marker will not cycle. There by negating any chance of chopped balls. Something you will get alot with a tippmann or spyder when you fire too fast or don't have an electronic auto feeder. The eyes can be turned off so you can cycle the gun without a ball incase you need to work on the marker.
The 2nd marker I would recommend is the Indian Creek Designs BKO. The last I checked up on the BKO was about 2002 so i'm fairly rusty on the schematics. But I can say its a very reasonable marker as well. I believe it's going to be $100 more expensive though.
I would recommend that you take a look at one or both of these markers and see if they will suit your needs and your price range. I hope I have been able to answer your question.
P.S. do give the Ion a good look i do favor that gun. Sometimes I put down my 06 Matrix to use it just for fun!

Zebra....model AO43,it has a 600 round hopper and it shots 21 balls per second, 6 at a time if you hold the trigger..you must use nitrogen instead of co2....but this is one bad a.s.s gun.......about $210.00 at sports academy..I am addicted to paint ball wars,I have 30 forts set up on 2 1/2 acres..we put the balls in the freezer, they hurt like hell when you get hit..you may want to start off cheap...if you like it you can buy a more expensive gun.

it depends on how much money you want to spend tippman is a good company that makes reliable guns especially for people that are just getting into paintball. smart parts is also a good company for a little higher end guns but they require more maintenance.

there's no usual "maximum suitable" paintball marker. it unquestionably relies upon on own decision. For a good beginning marker i could ought to pass with the ninety 8. Its common, sturdy, and much less costly. you may get them for a hundred thirty$
