My friend had a one night stand with someone he had only met once or twice before that. She was married and found out a month later that she was pregnant. She just had the baby and the test results came back and he's the father. They want to do what's best for the baby. They are thinking about getting into a relationship with each other. Is that's what's best for the baby, a relationship that's started because of the baby?

It's common sense -- as long as the relationship is healthy. Whether or not they're married, they will have a relationship of some kind or another because they have a child in common.

Yikes, probably not. And even if they really cared for each other, the statistics for marriages that come from affairs are pretty lousy. If her husband is willing to keep the child and raise it as his own, then they should do it, and work on their marriage. Otherwise, I would think adoption would be the best choice. This poor baby needs to be in a stable home where it is wanted and loved.

A lot of people get into this situation. The only way they should get into the relationship is for themselves. If they don't want to be in it they will do nothing but hurt the child in the long run. It is possible for both parents to be there for their child, but it doesn't mean they have to be in a relationship.
