The answer to your question depends upon an individual's intent to repent.
If someone was not planning on discontinuing sin, I would think that s/he would prefer to disbelieve in sin. It would mitigate the guilt that someone who believes in sin would feel.
If someone was hopeful to someday repent, then I think that person would want to know, so they could change their actions.

If you are associating the word "sin" with anything concerning God ( like heaven or hell etc.) you can ask this question and , may be, it has some relevance.
But, sin , like the other words Wrong, Immoral, unethical etc. is not connected with God. It has more to do with conscience , society. This word must have been hijacked by the regious leaders to browbeat the weak and the simple people.
You cannot believe in something that is wrong and still do it. You pay a heavy price. Like what Saddam Hussain paid. Those who do , they believe that it is not sin and , hence , they do it.
But if you refer to the "sin" of the God kind, many donot bother about the punishment by God later. If any such thing ever existe the world would be a great plave to live what with no one committing crime or "sin"

If I don't believe in jail and I don't pay my taxes I will still end up in jail.
If we acknowledge that we are sinner and repent(Turn to God from sin for his forgiveness) and call upon the name of the Lord (Jesus Christ) then we will go to heaven and escape from the punishment of eternal fire (HELL).
But if we believe not in sin we need not repent and we thus can not be saved from our sin. So shall we pine away in our sins til we die and after this the judgment, unsaved, we shall be condemned and suffer the punishment prepared by God for the Fallen Angels (not intended for men) eternal damnation in Hell with no remedy.
So logical its is better to believe in sin and also sin, if we repent.
However if we know the truth and repent not our case is worst yet.

I would rather believe in "sin" and sin, because then I would believe in the forgiveness of sin.

I believe in sin. Literally, sin means to "miss the mark". To believe in sin is to believe that there is a moral standard.
I believe in a moral standard based on my own Christianity.

It doesn't matter if one believes in it or not. It's still sin. Same with Heaven and Hell. Everybody is going to one place or the other regardless of a personal belief in them or not. Cold, hard truth but truth nonetheless.
God bless you.

I believe in sin. I'd rather believe, because at least I know what I'm doing and can stop myself. I'll have full control of my actions.
