I talked to a nurse and she said for a new born they only need an ounce, but how long does that last I'm going to be away from my baby for a good part of the day in a week so I want to know how many bottles I should have and how many ounces in each bottle. My baby will be 3 weeks old at the time I will be away.

Pump, pump, pump

Does your little one eat from one breast per session? Then pump the other one at each feeding (pumping one while feeding baby on the other should yeild you more milk)

If baby eats from both then pump both (15 min each) after each feeding, even if you're not getting anything--in a couple of dy you will start getting something.

Is baby going longer than an hour between feeds? if so pump between feeds also.

Put milk in fridge-at the end of the day--combine all milk (has to all be chilled to same temp to mix it) and freeze.

Drink plenty of water
Get plenty of rest
Eating oatmeal daily works for some woman
Fenugreek supplement 3 capsules 3 times per day

HTH and congrats on the baby and your decision to breastfeed!

Just start pumping away. When your done put the breast milk in zip lock freezer bags and freeze them. The milk will be good for a couple months. In a couple weeks you should have enough milk to not even worry about if there is enough. Figure out how many times a day your baby would be nursing ( usually every 3 hours for that age) and take out 1 or 2 ozs. per feeding for the sitter.

My son would drink 2 to 4 ounces each feeding at that age, but he's a giant baby (he was 9 lbs. 7 oz. at birth. Now he's 4 months old and weighs 20 lbs). If the nurse says 1 oz. per feeding, I'd leave 8 oz. just to be safe, or however much you can pump. I'd also leave some formula just in case.

you only need to feed your baby what he currently is eating.
does he empty one breast at a feeding right now? or does he empty both?
if he empties one- then you only need to pump that much for each feeding you will be away from him.
baby should have had his most recent growth spurt before you leave--so pump according to what he is eating at that time (if he starts eating more with the growth spurt)

Milk yourself every 4 hours and freeze the milk the baby doesn't drink.
It keeps all the nutrients even when it's freezed.

Thats a difficult question to answer. You should buy powder baby milk from the shop if you are going to be away
