Not because the manufacturers know the parents have money to buy clothes. Those who don't have don't buy.
I agree that clothes are ridiculously expensive, especially if you consider how many times babies wear them .I have clothes that my baby wore once and then it won't fit anymore.
The reason is that the manufacturers CAN do it - I mean for every product there's its customer, no matter what the price is. Every parent wants to pamper the child - to dress up, like a doll, babies are so cute! (not all of them, though :))
Depends where you but it - go to Ross, you'll find all those brand names 50-70% off, in case you don't want to pay suggested manufacturer's price at JC Penney or Macy's.

They don't have to be expensive. It depends where you shop. Target for instance has great prices especially if you watch their sale racks. Also Kohls, WalMart, etc. Another great place for baby clothes is resale shops. My daughter and her friends just keep passing the baby clothes around since they are outgrown so quickly. Don't get trapped into expensive clothes for babies or toddlers. It is not worth it.

There is lots of cute reasonable baby clothing at places like KMart, WalMart & Target. You might try a local resale shop for clothes since kids outgrow them so fast.

i do not understand the position you're buying yet for my son I keep at toddlers R Us on the clearance rack. He would not desire extreme priced clothing (really a million or 2 Juicy Couture clothing ;)) yet i have in no way paid more suitable than 6 funds at toddlers R Us for garments. and they are extremely great. verify it out.

Because 1st time parents and show off parents will buy them
My kid has name brand clothes--as gifts or bought 2nd hand for $0.50-$2.00 per peice (I never pay more that $2)
And I feel a lot better when he ruins a $2 shirt than a $20 shirt!

I honestly dont think childrens clothing is more expensive.
Unless you are buying from TOP name Brand clothing stores.
Children out grow their cloths quickly from newborn to 2T.
So why buy those TOP name brand cloths?
Go to Wal-mart or other discount stores.
I buy my grandsons cloths at Wal-mart.
Of course my son buys him the name brand Cloths.

My observation... Sappy moms want only 'new' for their little one. That is what the baby deserves. Only the best. Cost is no object for the stricken mom. What the market will bare.
