So I wanted to change how I do my makeup. Currently I only do my eyes, but I want to try different shades and whatnot, and maybe also find a nice lip color. I also SUCK at putting my mascara on, it comes out somewhat clumpy in a few spots and the eyelashes don't all curl out nicely. Any recommendations on where to get good deals on lots of eyeshadows, eyeliners etc. in a package so I can experiment without paying way too much, and good techniques for putting mascara on?

First, it really depends on your complexion, face shape, and features. Try going to a makeup counter at a department store and asking for their advice. For the mascara, wet your eyelashes before application (a great trick especially if you're using expired macara - oh yes, it DOES expire) and if necessary wet the brush before dipping it too. then jiggle the brush slightly side to side as you move it up your top lashes, from the base to the tips. Using mascara on your bottom lashes will make your eyes look bigger. You can use an eyelash curler before applying the mascara to make the lashes curl.
If you want to experiment, try going to pharmacies like Walgreens where you get a lot of stuff cheaply, or taking samples from higher end stores like Sephora. But keep in mind if you go the Walgreens route you'll get a much lower quality product.
You can also use eyeshadows as broad liners by getting a small applicator and putting a drop of water on the powder shadow, then using the applicator to mix a small spot and apply it like a liner.
For lips, clear high-gloss is a very in look, but isn't practical if you're not experienced with wearing gloss because it won't dry that way, so you'll need to reapply constantly, and whenever you eat or drink you'll lose it. If you want something low maintenance, try using a liquid color and blotting it with a paper towel before going out. You'll get a matte finish that will look natural and last a long time, while still being a brighter color.

DON'T USE AN EYELASH CURLER - Your eyelashes slowly fall out. The mascara I use is MF lash lift hydrofuge mascara volume and lift. It doesn't clump, and it shapes well. any other kind of makeup depends on your eye color. BLUE EYES - black eyeliner (real lightly put on) too much won't look good. Apply a medium brownon the eyelid, then under eyebrow and just above your eye lashes to the corner or your eye a lighter color like a white cream. It looks natural. For lip stick, If you are looking for that natural look, apply lip liner - shade - brown, but almost red and not too dark.....you alsowould apply either chap stick or lip gloss this is what will make your lips look natural.
BROWN EYES - same, except eye shadow - use like a light green, and ivory collor blend.
GREEN EYES - same, except eye shadow - use like a pinkish (almost light brown) and add to the blend either a light pink, light ivory, or all three.
HAZEL EYES - same, except for the eye shadow. This depends on what you are going to wear because the hazel eyes change colors to your clothes. If they turn bluish or greyish - go w/ the BLUE EYE way, If they turn greenish, go with the GREEN EYE way. If they turn brownish - go with the BROWN EYE way.

eyeshadow...i start at the browline. with a light shimmery color...brush a thine line under the brow and push it down. then ...for the crease...use you selected darker color and blend it up a little and down over your eyelid. use a similar color to the first or the same and sweep it across the lash line.
apply your eyeliner...
mascara: it is better to close your eye and sweep the top of the lashes first. and ten...with your eye open(before that dries) apply to the same lashes from the opposite side. barely touch the lash brush to the bottom lashes and move to the next eye.

to prevent clumping ...always make sure not to have excess mascara on your brush by wiping some onto the top of the tube. and don't use mascara that is too old. it is better too have too little on the brush than too much. some people start with a lash conditioner. some mascaras come with it.

when you get comfortable with your eyeshadows you can add another color and work with blending and shadow eyes!
have fun with it...good luck!

Stick with neutral color eyeshadows. You don't want ot look like a clown or trailer trash. I use white eyeshadow from the lid to the brow bone. Then I put brown in the crease. I line the upper & lower lid with a brown pencil & put on my mascara. I heat up my lash curler with a hair dryer a few seconds, then hot curl my lashes. Sometimes I use an old mascara want & put hair mole on my lashes so they will hold the curl better. Then I use Cover Girl Lash Exact Mascara. Don't pump the wand, gently wipe the wand with a clean tissue to remove the excessive mascara from the wand & keep it from clumping on you lashes. Then you should have the prettiest eyes on the block. Happy New Year.

If you just want to experiment, just buy some cheap stuff - Wet and Wild or NYC and go nuts. Once you get your technique done, move on to the more expensive stuff. You can also have a free make over at most large department stores. They will try to influence you into buying their products, but you're not obligated. They'll be able to give you a lot of tips you wouldn't learn elsewhere.

use a eyelash curler.
but honey, don't use too much makeup, because sooner or later, you're going to start noticing eye skin peeling off.
