my friend has been grounded for over a month. her family won't let her go out at all just cause she got one bad grade. she's 17. now they're not letting her go out for new years. ugh. ******* douche's. but anyways... is that too strict?

for 1 bad grade? that's ******' crazy! parents don't realize that being to strict can cause good kids to stress out and be rebelious. are you allowed to visit her without going out? maybe you can keep her company and do something for new years to cheer her up al little.

I was grounded my entire teenage life for grades...no phone, no outings with friends...it sucked. My Mom never bothered to find out WHY I made bad grades. I was diagnosed with ADHD a couple years ago....this is why I had such a tough time with my grades.
Her parents need to find out why she made that grade and send her out for New Years Eve! Being grounded for one grade is excessive, it's ridiculous.
She'll probably start sneaking out and rebelling like I did. I was so glad to move out and make my own decisions, I was treated like a convict! GOOD LUCK!

It depends on many factors, such as the reasons for the bad grade, the amount of times this has happened..etc...With just the information you provided, well, for me, as a parent,....I would not go as far as her parents have...but, I do not know the whole situation..still though, seems kind of extreme.

my parents were never ever that strict. and my grades improved.
sometimes parents just really get upset and they don't know what to do about a situation, so they do something that might not make sense.

not too trict-education is the single most important thing for teenage girls. Besides you're not telling the whole story.
