I've been a musician and songwriter most of my life (I'm 49), and I've written and copyrighted over 200 songs about a wide range of life's experiences, from losing my youngest daughter when she was engaged and was only 21 years old, to road rage, to a starry night on the back porch...

By far, in this country, the number one topic of most sucessful songwriters is love, whether it's finding it or losing it or trying to define it. Country artists. Rock Artists. Classical Operas. Musical theater. These all have had storylines about love in them somewhere...

A lot of my songs are slightly humorous, such as "Fastcar", which is a parody of NASCAR, or Road Rage, which is a humorous account of a real incident that happened to me.

Pick something from your heart and just start writing. Don't worry if you can't finish it. You can pick it up in a few days and finish it, but it's better to finish it once you start because that's when the feelings that inspire the poem or song are the strongest.

Good Luck and follow your heart. I started writing poems and songs when I was 12 (Waaaaay back when... LOL)

It depends how you feel and what experiences you had in recent or later times.
When i write plays or songs i write about things i know the best
and the things you care about.
For example you can use your friends and family.
