Recently my plecostemus bottom feeder has been swimming around near the surface of the water instead of sucking onto things like normal.

When I gave him a good exam i noticed that he had little white spots on his head. They looked almost like they were indented like some fugis is eating him or something. What should I do?

I was thinking maybe i should take him out and put him in some other type of container (bowl/plastic container) and treat him with melafix till he is well. What do you think? Its strange how he has been swimming around more.

sorry for the long answer...talk to you local "fish guy" most tropical fish dealers can explain this...or it's just a physical abnormality on the PLECO.

It sounds like ick or some kind of fungus. Heat the water to 85 degrees F and treat with either melafix or 1 tbs salt for evey gallon of water. I use the salt method because it is cheaper, which is important because all you said was plecostomus, whice almost always means its a common pleco, and since your tank is not overstocked that means you have at least a 175 gallon tank. You would spend a LOT of money on melafix, so salt is much cheaper to use.

it's probably fungus... give him a big container or tank 5 gallons minimum... use water from the old tank. and some new water. Add some bubbles, and a heater if your temp is less then 72°F. then add the meds.
