The easiest way to find out is to bring the check to your bank/credit union. Notify your management that your name is incorrect on your check and that it needs to be corrected for the next payroll. I had received a number of checks from my job and had not realized that my middle initial on the check was incorrect. A credit union clerk that knows me (thank goodness) caught it finally and let me know. She cashed my check, but advised me to get it corrected promptly.

If your financial institution will not cash your check, notify your management immediately. Do not discard the check - they will need it back for their records. They should be able to get payroll to cut you a check fairly quickly - either that day, depending on the time, or by the next.

I have a funky last name and get that problem alot! My bank usually just has me sign the check as it is written and then sign it correctly underneath. Just make sure your HR dept fixes it so your not in a mess/delay when it comes to tax refund time.

I really doubt it. The tellers never really concern themselves with anything except making sure that you can show them some type of I.D. in order to make your deposit. That's all I ever really have to do. But, if they should ask about it, I would just explain the situation. Also, next time you go in to work, tell your boss or whoever deals with the paychecks that your name was misspelled.

Normally banks dont have an issue with things like that.

Talk to your payroll people at your job and see if they will correct it, or see if they will cash the cheque there until they can change the mistake.

Edit: I misread your question...my apologies..I thought you had actually tried to deposit the cheque. (Thought the question said "why would the bank refuse to deposit...."

I think the bank will cash it ... just don't go pointing it out to the teller.Next you should have your payroll dept fix this error.
