I don't understand why Saddam's hanging wasn't adamantly and vocally opposed by human rights groups. I think it's a sad commentary on our society when hanging is considered just, and the president of the US condones it. I'm not surprised by Bushwad, though. He condones torture.

Do you not see that killing someone is this fashion, no matter what they did, is stooping to the level of an animal yourself? How can you claim the moral high ground, when you are as bad as the one you are condemning? How can you enjoy the suffering of another human being, no matter who they are? You are sadistic and twisted if you think this is OK. Don't be surprised when American troops start being executed in this way.

Jesus isn't in this.

Everyone who believes in GOD and thinks with his mind not only with his heart, will agree with you.
If GOD gave us life from his spirit, why should we steal it from a human being?
We claim that there's a true democracy in Iraq, but i guess that it's just the "HANGED DEMOCRACY".
Many of us knows that Saddam admitted many crimes against his own people, but in many cases he was pushed to do it, this doesn't mean that he must not be accused and punished, but it should have been taken into consideration, esp. his war with Iran, since Khomayni wanted to have a shaii islamic states across the arabian gulf.
We have learned throughout history that we represent the democratic symbol for the third world countries, and that we are civilized to the extreme, but how do our leaders accept such a brutal crime, Hanging?!!!!
There's also a paradox, for example, France asked the Iraqis to be aware of a civil war and to continue their daily life issues, while in the same time the EU refuses Turkey to join it until the death penalty is deleted from the Turkish law!!!!
Shame on our leaders, and shame on those who believes that Saddams' death would bring peace to Iraq.
The Vatican and human rights watch refused the hanging, vatican said that this would bring Iraq into a civil war, while HRW believes that his hanging is a tragic moment in history.
Turn on the TV and watch the massacres that are occuring at this moment all over Iraq.
By the way, it was announced today that this month was the most tragic for the US troops in Iraq, where until today 108 were killed.

I agree with you. It's something Saddam would have done and it's going down to his level. Something seems wrong with getting enjoyment out of hanging someone. But in that part of the world, you don't want to know some of the things they do over there.

Yes, hanging is uncivilized & inhumane. So is every form of capital punishment. So is war. So is torture.

But, what are the alternatives? How do we move past it? How can we move civilization to the next level when few people are actually willing to take action to do so? What can we do to ensure the safety of the people in the world when violence is so prevalent?

Hanging is uncivilized & inhumane, yes, I agree. It's too early, I'm sure someone's gonna say something later on.

It can also be said that executing someone 2 months after their sentence is inhumane because it doesn't give them any time for appeal (ei: In the US you get like 10 years of prison time after sentencing to prove yourself innocent).

It wasn't completly decided by the US, it's what Iraqis wanted. That is why Human rights groups could not interfer. Freedom of speech is America not Iraq ;) If you feel sorry for Saddam being executed by hanging might I suggest you inquire on some of the ways he treated other people, his people. I don't agree nor disagree with someone being executed by hanging.

I totally agree with you.
I have emailed George Bush and my own PM John Howard to say how disgusted I am. It makes it even worse for us in Australia, as the death penalty is banned here.
The thought of Bush and his father being smugly happy that this was carried out is abhorrent to me.
This is NOT ok and I have to believe that it will go down in history as a miscarriage of justice.
'Killing is ok as long as we westerners carry it out' - is the message we have just sent to the world, 'because our motives are good'
Yeah right.

All forms of KILLING is uncilvilized and inhumane. Oh Well, get over it. Don't spend too much time thinking about this sort of crap, hun. You'll just give yourself a headache. There is NOTHING you can about it, so you are just thinking about a lost cause.

Try thinking about more pleasant things such as candy canes, and lollipops, butterflies, kittens and balloons!

You cannot blame Bush for this one. He was tried under Iraq's law.

There are people dancing in the streets. They are celebrating.

His party who followed him are crying in the streets of his home town, but even those people don't have to fear that he will break out of prison and end up ruling again.

Don't agree.

It is simply an eye for an eye. It is a fair punishment for the crime committed. More than fair if you consider what he did to people.

It is more important to worry that innocent people are unjustly accused and punished. In his case it was pretty simple.

shut up. right now.

educate yourself before you speak woman.... first of all there are groups that PUBLICLY oppose this hanging in particular

here is a quote from a story about saddams hanging on the YAHOO HOME PAGE of all things....

"Saddam Hussein was responsible for massive human rights violations, but that can't justify giving him the death penalty, which is a cruel and inhuman punishment," said Richard Dicker, director of Human Rights Watch's International Justice Program.

tell me this...was the killing of 148 shiite muslims just???
was the genocide of 200,000 kurds just????
