You can't really hurt someone too bad trying to punch them while you're balancing on hockey skates, for one thing. For another, the referees always jump right in there when more than two guys are going at it and as soon as one of the fighters falls over to prevent anyone from getting hurt. The refs want to allow players to put issues behind them so that things don't escalate to a bench-emptying brawl later in the game, plus this way the guys tire themselves out and are each assessed a penalty so if they continue to fight and disrupt the game further, they can be given a game misconduct and thrown out. It just makes sense all around.

The refs have to step back and wait for the right time to get in there and try and stop it, after the players are exhausted. But remember the refs have to conserve their energy as well , they have no substitutes. Hockey is a very emotional, fast game, fighting is an outlet to certain players.

they keep them going for hockey publicity. Fights are what turn a lot of people into hockey fans. and, depending on how rough a fight is, they DO. watch these clips. if a player starts to get hurt, they will. the breaking point for when a ref will break up a fight is when one player gets another on the ground, which is harder than you might think.

Afaik they simply stay away so as that they are not getting hit, and as quickly simply by fact the combat slows down or the two run out of steam the refs and/or linesmen leap in. could desire to be incorrect yet looks somewhat clever. Hockey is a high quality game imo with or devoid of the struggling with nonetheless it for sure nevertheless desires the actual factor. i do no longer understand the way it truly is watched much less then baseball, american soccer (lol) or basketball yet then i assume the yanks would not understand a game if it smacked them interior the face.

The fans pay to see the fights...fighting is part of the sport and part of what makes hockey exciting for the people watching it. If they stop every fight right away the fans will be booing...besides it's easier to get in between two players once they've tired themselves out by taking swings at each other.

Hockey fights are one of the best parts of hockey. Fights happen out of the emotion of the game and if any cheap shots are taken. You will NEVER see the fans (the very few fans that now go to the games) at the games leave to go to the bathroom or to get food when there is a fight going on. Go to hockeyfights.com

Because they dont want to get hit. Jumping into a fight between big players is a good way to get hurt. ALSO, you don't want to hold one player and allow the other to sucker punch the other.

The best thing to do is allow each other to settle thier differences and let each other tire each other out. When they get tired the refs will break it up. If one player is getting smoked the refs will break it up also to protect the players. It i very very rare to see players hurt each other in a fight beyond a broken tooth or nose. But jumping into a raging fight can cause much worse injuries.

Not only is it for protection, but fighting is part of the hockey game, its a way of one team to swing the momentum and intimidate another team. It's just as much strategy as what defense or offense to play. Fighting solves many of the problems as well, having 2 goons duke it out instead of having players give each other cheap shots to show their hatred is much safer. Once the fight gets out of hand they generally stop it very quickly

If two guys over 6 feet tall (sometimes well over) and over 200 pounds were slugging away at each other, wouldn't you wait until they got tired before you stepped in to break them up? I would. Watch how quickly those guys throw punches; the refs would be stupid to jump in before the right hooks slowed down. The refs don't want to get hit with an accidental haymaker and I don't blame them.

Because, aside from stopping play, there's nothing wrong with fighting in hockey.
If Steve 'Foo-Foo' Moore had just dropped the gloves with Bertuzzi, and taken what was coming to him, he wouldn't have been 'attacked'.
There is a code of conduct among hockey players, like if you're a POS rookie, you don't run the other team's captain with your knee out (see Moore, Steve, POS),
If you do something so cowardly, you can expect to answer for it on the ice.
The only two sports where you can fight, serve your penalty and go back to playing are hockey and lacrosse. Our winter and summer sports respectively. That's what make Canada great.
