Are Americans aware that Saddam murdered his way to the top of the Ba’ath Party thanks to CIA backing?
Are people aware that the US manipulated the start of the Iraq/Iran war in revenge for the Iranian revolution in 1979?
Do people know that America provided diplomatic support, military intelligence, financial backing & US weapons technology to Saddam during the Iraq/Iran war & during his most bloody & murderous campaigns?
Are people aware that Saddam killed up to 300,000 civilians during his 20 years in power, the majority happening with US collusion?
Are people aware that the current war in Iraq has killed over twice as many Iraqi civilians in 3 years than Saddam did in 20 years?
So why are people celebrating Saddam’s death, when America put him into power, supported his crimes & since the 2003 illegal invasion, have made Iraq much worse than Saddam ever did?
I’m not attacking the American people here, just the US government’s foreign policy.

Miranda M - You didn’t read the question, didn't understand the question or didn't want to accept the true facts.
I'm in no way defending Saddam - he's an evil murderer and responsible for unspeakable horrors.
My question is about accepting responsibility for enabling Saddam's decades of evil.
Although mostly correct, your comments on other nation’s international crimes are not relevant.
I'm sorry if you don't like to hear about America's collusion with Saddam's criminal actions. But there's no point in attacking me because you don't like the truth.
I don't like it either, but I can't be a hypocrite & celebrate Saddam's death when he was just part of the problem.

Wunderkind - No, I'm not blaming the USA. I'm blaming Saddam, the USA and to a lesser extent, the UK.
Saddam only got into power thanks to US support. His weapons were supplied by America (and some of Iran's were too).
The gassing of the Kurds was done with US approval and was covered over by America.
US / UK actions in the current war have killed many times more civilians than Saddam did.
We have no right to be so self-righteous and satisfied with Saddam's execution, because he was just one part of a bigger operation.

Think about it. It was the Bush administration and not Saddam that turned out to be lying about WMDs. As we all know now, there weren't any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Amazingly enough, it was Saddam who was telling the truth from the very beginning. Bush was the one who lied to the whole world.
You may remember that in 2002, the UN Security Council ordered Iraq to put together a report detailing the entirety of its biological, chemical, and nuclear weapons programs. In response, Iraqi officials compiled an 11,800-page report on the past and present status of Iraq's weapons programs.
From that report we learned (from the Iraqis) that Iraq once had both chemical and biological weapons, as well as a program to develop nuclear weapons. We also learned that Iraq acquired biological and chemical weapons from the US, and Iraqi nuclear scientists were trained at US government nuclear facilities. Most importantly, though, the Iraqis told us that some of the weapons and nuclear facilities were destroyed in the first Gulf War, and the rest were destroyed under the supervision of UN weapons inspectors.
All of this turned out to be true.
WHAT WE'VE LEARNED
George Bush repeatedly told us that Saddam was lying, that Iraq had WMDs, and that Iraq under Saddam was a "threat to the whole world." So, here we are, years later. What have we learned to be the truth?
The search for WMDs turned up nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch.
Everything Hussein said about the weapons has turned out to be true. Everything Bush said about the weapons has turned out to be false.
But, it wasn't "faulty intelligence" as the liars keep telling us. War against Iraq was the product of a witch's brew of disinformation, distortions, spin, and lies given by people interested in the US invasion of Iraq.
The non-existent weapons of mass destruction weren't the only falsehood. There were the phony uranium purchases, lies about Al-Qaeda training camps in Iraq, mobile weapons labs, and drones that were going to attack the East Coast of the US.
Remember the lies about babies being thrown out of incubators? The propaganda started years ago. Even the claims of Saddam's brutality are suspect. Why? Because most of these claims come from the same people that have already discredited themselves.
No one would call you naïve for distrusting someone who lies to you over and over and over.
NEW REASONS FOR WAR
So, when confronted with the charge that he lied about the reasons to go to war with Iraq, President Bush simply went into spin mode and said, "The defense of freedom is always worth it."
Was it worth it to the thousands of Americans who have been wounded or killed?
Was it worth it to the countless Iraqi men, women and children who have died?
Was it worth it to their families?
FOREIGN ENTANGLEMENTS
The reality of the situation is that the US Government - from Bush Sr., to Bill Clinton, to G.W - decided on its own that Saddam should no longer be the president of Iraq. This is the very thing that the Constitution and International Law were designed to prevent.
America was never threatened by Saddam Hussein. Iraq had absolutely no capability to attack the United States, and never was there indicated a desire to do so.
In short, American "freedom" was never threatened by Iraq, or Saddam Hussein. So how can anyone consider an unprovoked attack on another nation as "defending freedom"? The absurdity of such lies will ring on for centuries.
It's not America's calling to choose who should or should not be in charge of another country. But, obviously, the Iraqi war was worth it to George Bush.
If George wants to donate his own money to revolutionary movements in foreign countries, he has the right as a free person to do so. If he wants to quit his job (wishful thinking) and go fight in one of those countries, he has a right to do so as well.
But, he has absolutely no constitutional authority to use American money and American lives to fight for "freedom" in other countries.
So, in order to continue war, the lies must continue.
TRUTH AND LIES
The result of all this was that the "Butcher of Baghdad" was right and that the "President of the United States" was wrong. Saddam Hussein was given the death penalty for "war crimes," while George Bush and his accomplices in our two-party Congress continue to rule over us.
We're living in sad times, indeed, times when you can trust what Saddam Hussein says more than your own government.
In practice, being honest or lying doesn't matter. It's might that's right.
And that's the sad truth.

The USA, the UK, France and Germany were complicit in supplying Iraq with the means and ability to manufacture both biological and chemical weapons.
I find it increasingly bizarre that rather than embarking upon reasoned arguments, Americans often resort to name calling when they are faced with the undeniable truth. People like yourself are either called facists of liberal Jews.
The cold hard fact of the matter is that during the Anfal and Duijal campaigns against the Kurds and Shia people, America and the UK knew full well what was going on - they were Iraq's staunchest supporters. Indeed they would still be allies today were in not for the fact that Iraq invaded Kuwait threatening the US's oil interests. Even after the first Gulf War, America and the UK did nothing other than ensure that Kuwait's oil interests were protected. They had the opportunity then to capture him and bring him to justice for his past infractions, but they left having secured the oil and leaving the Shia people to be systematically slaughtered [as they had supported the Western powers]. It is also an interesting fact that America has refused to sign the International Statute of the Criminal Court [ICC] which tries war criminals and of course Iraq is a non-signatory. If Saddam had been tried at the ICC America and the UK would have had no control over the proceedings however surreptious. There is a wealth of literature about the ineffectiveness of domestic Tribunals - e.g Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia. The trial in Iraq was a farce and far below the standards expected of international courts and tribunals.
It is the absolute height of hypocrisy that most American's are screaming the loudest about Saddam being a "war criminal" when his very actions were acceptable to them nearly 20 years ago when they stood back and did nothing when thousands of people were killed.
Ignore any negative comments you may get .. once again it is the HERD MENTALITY with people unable to formulate ideas of their own. To put it very bluntly it is somewhat uneducated and I would expect nothing more from such people!!
P.S I am British and am studying International Law.

I don't suppose they do but they are easily led by their government's propaganda. From Yahoo answers it seems that many americans have been persuaded that Saddam had something to do with 9/11, whereas most intelligent people know that Saddam and bin Laden are totally opposed to each other.
It's interesting that Saddam was only charged with the one crime of revenge for an attempted assassination attempt and will be executed before he can stand trial for all the other massacres such as the gassing at Halubja which may produce evidence of Western involvement and approval.

Isnt it funny that the US is behind all these and they appear innocent infront of the public and yet the majority of the public still believe them. Are the majority of the people really dumb?
May be Bush and Blair should go through similar trial that Saddam went through and the public should see their executions live on TV. After all they are murderers too. What was their reason to go on war with Iraq? Weapons of mass destructions. Where are the weapons of mass destructions now? up their arses?
Them two are not only responsible for the death of iraqi civilians but also the army troops that lost their lives fighting the useless war.
If Bush and Blair are so interested into going to war with other countries, may be they themselves should be in the frontline or send their family members. but will they? oh no their family is way too precious but they dont care the other people whose their lives and their family members. After a dead body returns, whats their response to the family of the dead person? I am sorry....... will saying sorry bring back the dead person?
We all know they are after the oils and yet many people are still dumb enough to believe their pathetic excuses...
What a tragedy!

Yeah, we get it... You're not looking at the whole picture though... WE LOOK BETTER IF HE IS DEAD... DUH! This isn't a battle of right and wrong here, it's about being able to do what we want, and make other countries and dictators look bad for it.
This is the reason why the U.S. is so rich, because we can do whatever we want, and allow the population to complain about it, and we still look good to everyone else... We would just be another third world country if stuff like this didn't happen.

Sarcastic yes, but If you want to use the logic that we helped him do what he did, why don't you look at everything else that way.. Including this:
I guess if you want to say that, then we helped educate people like Theodore Kaczynski, Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, & Scott Peterson... They all went to schools in the US, so should we blame the USA schools for them too?

War crimes are a stain on the human soul. On those that commit them, and on humanity as a hole. With out war their would be no war crimes. Are to nations voted in the governments, that sent solders who were ill equipped mentally, to cope with the stresses of battle.. Small wonder these things happen.. I fear we however must assume some responsibility.

We live in a world that has evil/power crazed people!! at the top that are playing people like puppets, nothing surprises me with all these storys coming out. Come on! America has never really been land of the free! theres so much odd history! you can go back to when native indians were swept aside! for the so called free country? Good people such as Martin Luther King were silenced (I say they tried but failed, his voice lives in spirit) he had a voice from the good! he was for the people! he was about truth, hope and freedom, the country has powers that don't wish to promote the human heart! The currupt evil in America will do whatever it can to have a control on our thoughts/views about events, it has a nasty weapon! its called confusion and it is sadly working! The media for one!! Evil will easily kill other evils and convince us that it has done good! to appear good but for real good people such as Martin l King will never be forgotten! and my point is that people want the truth, they want to hear the voice of good and no power on this planet can ever truely silence this, they will silence anyone who causes a big voice to the people, look at JFK, the cheating that got Bush in! theres a game going on between good and evil in the background, we all know something smells bad in the world today, we our not stupid! don't believe the media! ask yourselves this? who runs it all? know what I'm saying :) they are controlled to tell you what someone else wants you to believe :) to blind you to whats really going on! but the big question in the back of our minds is can normal people that have everyday lives make a difference? if enough people know the truth and believe in it, thats a powerful thing :)

America supports many governments we don't really agree with. They are the "lesser of several evils."
But even these governments we support sometimes cross the line, like invading a country we support (like Kuwait), and they cease to get our support.
Look at the Soviets in WWII, our "ally."

It is true we put him there becuase we didnt want to pay 5.00 a gallon for gas. However,,,,,,, the US had no idea he was going to do what he did. Some things went on without our knowledge and we are still learning of things, numbers, etc...
We can't force someone to do as we feel they should do. We had no way of knowing he was gonna turn into an Anti Christ.
Saddam killed more than 300k . Way more.......he even killed his own family. Who knew he woudl do that? we have no way of knowing until after the fact.........
Yes, the CIA is evil. So is the UN!!!!!!!
