well of course now he's hurt but before he definitely was.
Yao Ming was probably the most versatile center in the NBA. He can do some many things with a basketball that most centers can't. For one thing he's a terrific shooter for a center who can hit several mid-range jumpers and hit a three-pointer in his rookie season. He's gotten a lot more aggressive recently and he can dunk on people as well as any other center in the league. He plays terrific defense, and is freaking tallllll (as we all well know). Anything you can ask of a center he can do it and more.

I would say Yao is THE best center in basketball today. A year ago it was pretty even with Yao and Shaq, but now Yao far surpasses Shaq in terms of stats and defensive presence. In a year or two, the way Dwight Howard is improving, he may be equal or better than Yao though...

i might take Dwight Howard. Howard is a monster interior the paint. Dude wasn't that solid offesnsively yet now that he has greater NBA adventure he has grow to be a official 25 element scorer interior the paint. He can dunk, power, slah and make little leap hooks too. he's a ferocious offensive rebounder. He could additionally run in transition and fastbreaks and end with authority his unfastened throw shooting desires some paintings yet he's youthful and all centers have struggles on the unfastened throw line, so its ok Howard is the suited shielding middle interior the league. the guy can swat photographs at will and could rebound like loopy. He makes performs for his group on the shielding end by utilising assisting out on demonstrate and rolls, working out to open shooters, contesting photographs and not giving up any uncomplicated factors interior the paint. Yao is an surprising skills He can shoot the midrange 15-18 ft photographs and could use his benefit to placed up human beings up for his fallaway or leap hooks. while the offense alternatives up the pace and the %. starts off turning out to be speedier, Yao has a tendency to grow to be drained truly and subsequently turns into soft and his strikes are not useful anymore. He nevertheless desires diverse paintings in his conditioning and turning out to be a perplexing center participant. final twelve months interior the playoffs, gamers which includes Kirilenko, Boozer, Okur and Millsapp from the Utah Jazz truly abused Yao on protection provided that he grow to be sluggish footed and took a protracted time to get off the floor. He have been given outsmuscled truly in rebounding (particularly interior the offensive) and that ended up being the adaptation interior the sequence simply by fact the Rockets choked a three-2 sequence benefit and lost game 7 AT homestead simply by offensive rebounding by utilising the Jazz.

In my opinion, i think yao is one of the best centers in the league. But a few years from now, he's going to improve and guaranteed he's going to be the best center in the game.

by default maybe
there are no real centers left in the NBA with Shaq always hurt
now all the good big men are power forwards
yao is still a career loser who hasn't lived up to his hype but if you want to grasp at straws to feel better I guess you could call him the best center in an nba that has gone away from centers
what an honor

before the injury. yao was playing like the best center in the league. shaq is way past his prime and i dont see a center who is as dominant as yao is. but yao can still grow. he still needs to become a better rebounder and develop more of an killer instinct. he is still too passive, once he gets shaqs attitude watch out!

IMHO he is the best right now and will be the best for at least 2 years. Then Oden can best him; I don't see Dwight improving to that level but I'd be glad to be wrong. Probably they'll remain three different players, Dwight better in rebounding, Oden in defence and Yao in scoring.

More than one of the best, he is the best center in the league today. 25 pts/9reb a game, and he can shoot free throws which is so rare in centers these days. He seems to have learned this season how to use his body even better and what's scary is that he will continue to get better for the next few years.
