You're right. This will unleash a lot.
I feel that we in the 'civilised' countries really should feel ashamed at the way our governments have handled this.
Personally, I have sent George Bush an email signalling my disappointment at this brutality.
Two wrongs dont make a right. Here in Australia the death penalty is banned, and I am happy about that. I'm not suggesting criminals get off scotfree, but if we kill them arent we then as guilty as they are? Or is it ok if we do it, coz our motives are good? I have real trouble with it.
And I have real trouble with all the people celebrating his death. Death is something that will come to us all. It is a serious business. Never a reason to celebrate.
Everyone keeps saying that he was executed by Iraq, but we all know the Iraqi government was setup by the US.
Also apparently Islamic law does not allow execution of anyone over the age of 60. Saddam was 69.
International conventions say that war criminals need to be tried on neutral soil, by neutral judges. This did not happen in this case.
As for all the people on Yahoo saying that we will be safe now that he is dead. Are you for real? I fear you will be quickly proved mistaken and the soldiers will be the one who will have to deal with the fallout. I do not believe any 'good' will come from this execution.
I am expecting lots of 'thumbs down'. But thats just my opinion. We are still allowed to disagree with our governments arent we?????

I keep thinking of the scene in the "Life of Brian" where they are writing up their condemnation of the Roman empire prior to their pathetic overthrow attempt. The discussion goes off on a tangent when they begin mentioning all of the good things about the Roman Empire.
At some point Michael Palin's character blurts out-
"Yeah, they certainly know how to keep order. Let's face it. They're the only ones who could in a place like this."

I too have mixed feelings. To say that this was not heavily "manufactured" by the USA would be ludicrous. An opportunity to show the world that we (USA) can deal humanely with a situation like this was lost. I thought people of Hussein's status, if executed, were to be killed by firing squadk, not hanging. Was this even legal, according to Iraqi law?

well, you know saddam and bush senior had beef a long time ago and now that the son is in office I know he played a major role in it even though it was the iraqi judge that tried him..I hope they are ready for any retaliation because the followers may blame the u.s for what happened to hussein even though we didn't play a big part in it

I AM JUST PRAYING HE MADE HIS LIFE RIGHT WITH GOD AND ACCEPTED JESUS AS HIS SAVIOR. I KNOW HE WAS A MURDERER AND HORRIBLE AND ALL, BUT EVEN HE HAD A CHANCE TO TURN HIS LIFE AROUND.
