No way! I'm 150 as well and I love to go out swing dancing. What you need is a great partner and some good practice. Lifts (should you choose to do them) are all about momentum and balance. And never ever worry about how much you weigh when you dance. What's important is that you have fun!!!

Ha ha ha, no. Videos are a form of visual entertainment and of course, the producers of any video are going to try to make the video as appealing as possible. You need to remember that videos usually don't reflect real life. Pretty much anyone can swing dance as long as you don't have any problems with the joints in knees, ankles, things like that. It's a lot of movement so your joints are going to be put to work.
On a side note, while it does depend on your height, I believe its highly unlikely that 150 would crush such a dream even if you did have to be skinny.

Of course not! The media are so cruel and boring when it comes to portraying the "perfect" body. If the ideal dancer is supposed to be skinny, then hardly anyone could be a dancer nowadays. It's insane! I am a dancer myself and loads of girls who go to the same dance groups as me aren't stick-thin. Don't let all these videos hold you back - I bet you're a great dancer. Good luck! :o)

No darling, this stereotype is completely wrong. Do not let them tell you that healthy sized women cannot dance, because that's quite far from the truth. You can dance just as well as a really thin person, all you need is some training and effort. Best of luck!

That is not the case! I'm not a swing dancer myself, but I know women of all sizes who are. Swing is about pure enjoyment, and the standards that are prevalent in some forms of dance aren't nearly so in swing.

Absolutely not - just because a video (or video's) show skinny girls doing it doesn't mean you can't. Anyone can swing dance (unless you have two left feet like me).

150 isn't big. You're a mere slip of a lass. Be happy with who you are and stop concerning yourself with other peoples opinion. If you weighed in at 500lbs and was dancing I wouldn't think any less of you.

Among Whitey's Lindy Hoppers, the couple that may have garnered the most attention was Shorty George Snowden and his partner, whose name I can't remember. She was considerably bigger than he, and their routines often catered to that fact, with her carrying him off stage at the end, for instance. Of course, in the 1930's, people weren't so obsessed with such matters.
