Ok, torrents are pieces of information that torrent programs read to tell where to download stuff from. You must have bittorrent software like http://www.utorrent.com or http://www.bitcomet.com

get torrents from torrent sites like http://www.isohunt.com

and
http://www.torrentbox.com

open the torrents with your program and they will download. they are used because it clears up server bandwidth by transfering to p2p. downloads are easily resumable, and make it easy to share your files. They are illegal if copyrighted material is posted(which is what most of it is). Limewire comes with more viruses because there are items being downloaded. ex. you download 12 fergie songs, but with a torrent, you download the whole cd at one time. I hope this helps!(10 points would be nice)

torrent sharing is just a system like limewire. However it has a piece check feature which guarantees the correctness of data downloaded; this format was basically written far sharing large files. The legality or the illegality depends on the content; if u r breaking copyright laws by sharing copyrighted data u r in 4 trouble. Seeds r the guys who have the files u wanna download and peers r the guys who wanna download it. Use can use a program like utorrent or azurues 2 download torrent file. For more info about torrent files go to www.bittorrent.com and read the FAQ; ask if u dont get ne thing.

BitTorrent is a special method some people developed to make downloading big files (like music and videos) faster. In traditional downloading, your file comes to you one piece at a time, from one source. With torrent files, it downloads several pieces at the same time, and puts it back together into a complete file when its done finding all the parts.

There is nothing illegal about the Torrent system, unless you are trying to download something that is copyrighted. It has pretty much the same risk-factor as Limewire; whenever you download files from unknown sources there is a risk involved.

Hope this helps!

okay im going to explain why people download them... well people like myslef download them for movies, games or applications kuz anywhere else or even by going to the site you have to pay for them no its not illegal to download them if you dont sell them then its illegal kuz your suppose to use them for personal use only... if torrent sites were illegal then they wouldnt have them on the Internet i dont think just like Limewire people use limewire for music and so on kuz nowdays music is so expensive and dont want to spend like who knows on a cd when u can just download it yourslf and the good point of using torrents is u can burn it on a dvd or cd also and enjoy them.. would u pay who knows how much on a dvd or cd when u can just download it for free and enjoy them

This isn't an answer to your question, just an observation that posters in B&A are much more inclined to include source citations and link references than the people who post in other zones. The answers to this question demonstrate that nicely. I guess it's just the nature of the beast but one of the things, attention to proper grammar and punctuation another, that makes B&A a standout in the YA community. A happy and healthy 2009 to all.
