Just be honest, as one of Jehovah's Witnesses I can tell you we'd appreciate that! Sometimes people are nice and take literature or listen politely to scriptures without any interest. We can't convert you- that's up to you and Jehovah. Jesus said his Father was looking for ones to serve him in spirit and truth (John 4:23), but if you are indifferent to the good news we don't want to waste your time or ours. However, circumstances change and sometimes persons we've talked to who were disinterested suddenly want to talk about world conditions or death and so we still will knock at your door another time to check on you. Just be honest either way.

Witnesses are not offended when a householder politely and tersely informs them he is not interested in their message.

A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to "recruit" a householder, or get him to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!

That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.

(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

I dont even open the door anymore.. there is a lot of crazy people out there.. but from inside of my house I tell them: "Thank you for coming but I am not interest.. I am catholic and I dont have any intention to convert or to listen to any other religion.. Thank you for stopping by" Now if they still insist that they want to drop a brochure or so.. I say: "No thanks.. have a great day. God Bless you" And they normally leave me alone after that.

You can say, "Thank you, I've heard this before and I'm really not interested in your religious preference."

Personally I tell them I am adamantly opposed to any religious organization with beliefs based on fear and guilt. Then I tell them that if anyone is ever going to get me into the Watchtower, it will be my mother, because she is a Jehovah's Witness.

Say thank you and that you are not interested. simple and sweet. If they persist. Say that you are another religion or no! You have to be firm. But all they want really is to help people and bring good so, you really can't help but say thank you. If anything I usually say thank you, no and close the door.

Get yourself a sign to put on your door that says "NO SOLICITORS" and they won't even knock. Works on Mormons and people trying to sell crap also. They're 99 cents at the hardware store, and I haven't had to deal with any of that crap since I put it up.

Answer the door. Say When they say something, say simply "I'm not interested, thank-you, good-bye" and enter your house and close the door.

Seriously? Just politely saying "no, thank you" will work. They might ask if they can leave some literature with you and you can say yes or no to that and then they'll leave.

Usually if you tell them thank you for coming but I already have a church that I love to go to they will understand and leave you in peace.
