I would die to defend my country, my right to worship the way I choose, my freedom of speech, my right to vote.
I would die to defend my children, I would die to defend my friends and family. Those are the only true blessings we have our friends our family, our beliefs and convictions. If we would not defend these things then we do not place a value on them. Possessions come and go but rights, liberty, friends and family must be defended fiercely.

I read this in a book about Dr Martin Luther King Jr. I don't know if he coined this phrase or if he was quoting somebody else, but it stuck with me....
"If A man hasn't found something worth dieing for, then he doesn't deserve to live."
I feel this way about my wife, and also about my faith is Jesus. I'm not saying "this is what I believe, so shoot me". I just hope to God that if I'm ever put to the test that I make the right decision.
It's important to note that you can't die for something that you can't live for. If a person is unable to resist his own selfish lusts and desires on a daily basis, for instance by being a faithful loving husband , or by being a Christian who loves his neighbor as himself, then he will be unable to take a stand and die for those causes when put to the test.

I would die for one of my kids. If I had to choose between myself or them I would choose them. I've lived half my life - theirs is just starting!
