leave them up as long as you want. it's ultimately your call. most people try to have their decorations down before the next holiday (after new years in this case). like who would want to see haloween decor when nearing thanksgiving? it's all a judgement call.

Well, In Greece, where I spent holidays, Santa is coming on new year's day. Children find their presents the first day of the year. So we are still waiting for him. New year's day is an important celebration here so nobody takes the Christmas decoration down. We usually do so, on Jan 7th.

I take down the decorations inside usually on new years day.

but , outside, i like to leave them up. If it ever snows here, which it hasnt really yet this year, the lights look pretty. Besides, i have up a big inflatable snowman. I 'd like to leave him up all winter. I dont see why not, right?? But I'd say before the 15th.

Mine came down today. Normally I take everything down on January 1 when everyone is watching the Rose Parade, but our tree was so dried out I wanted to get rid of it. Besides, my son's birthday is in early January so I want all the Christmas stuff gone so that his birthday can be *his* day, not an extension of Christmas.

We leave the lights up until about a week after new years but we take the tree down right away because it dries out and it becomes a fire hazard

Once Christmas is over I'm anxious to get my house back to normal. I took my tree and decorations down on the 27th. I think it's whatever you want.

The weekend that falls around the middle of January we put everything Christmas related away - movies, books, decorations - everything!

We try to make it last as long as possibly - leading up to Christmas it is excitement, and presents, etc etc etc and the business of getting READY for Christmas! I like to take the time after to really enjoy it!

It just depends. Some people take them down the day after Christmas and some people wait until New Years to take them down. I would take them down in the next couple of days or right after New Years!

Happy New Years!

As a 'general rule,' you are okay leaving the lights and tree up until New Year's Day (or as close to that day past that if you are not at home). After that, it's not really "kosher."
