I have a few convictions on my criminal background (misdemeanor) that are over 5 years old. I have started going back to college and want to become a R.N. I have my medical assistant license and have applied for jobs at the hospital but have been turned down because of my background. just wondering would this be an issue too if I were to get my nursing license. Do they disregard it after so many years or what? Nurses, anybody help me out!

If you want a job at a hospital, having any crime record may be detrimental to your career.

You should keep your hopes up - continue building on your resume, apply to as many different hospitals possible and see how they take it.

goodluck!

You might consider contacting a medical recruiter/head hunter. They may know of or be able to find an employer that accepts your type of criminal record.

Were they state charges? Your record can be expunged after so many years, however a thourough background check might still turn it up.

In my opinion having misdemeanors that old wouldn't hurt. but that's just my opinion. Now if it was a felony, no way.
