Clamp down on it as hard and as quickly as you can. First, where did you get this information...where did this person get this information? Next, address this, in a professional manner, directly, openly, and to the point with your manager. If you have to, ask him where he got this information and face this other person in a meeting with the manager. If your manager is not willing to work with you in finding the person responsible...then you must assert that you do not want to be the 'scape goat for this situation. If you did not start this rumor, you should have no problems facing it...don't be timid. Look to seek out the culprit that has placed your integrity and job on the line. Believe it or not, people think better of people who are hard-a**es than people who roll over. Don't take this lying down--but address it in a calm and serious manner.

Your best bet @ this time is to arrange for a meeting with the Manager to set it all straight. Hopefully is doesn't cost you your job which it shouldn't. Unfortunatley there always seems to be some type of work drama. Try your best to remove yourself from it... If at all possible. Management should set it straight that this type of behavior is discouraged in the workplace.

Well try to find ways and details how u didn't do it and prove it to your friend and boss. Then try to think back and find out who might of said it. Try to make them spill out whether they did it or not. Don't beat around the bush. Just go and find a way with back ups on what youre going to ask them. The best of Luck!!!

Find out where it's coming from, talk to the manager and let him know that you didn't say these things. He needs to hear it from you, not from someone else. Make sure you sit down with him and tell him. If you need to, have someone in there as a witness.

Ignore the rumors. You start your own counter rumour as to how you would like to project yourself. Whatever moves you make, project yourself clean, keeping the rumour in mind.

Why would you want to stay at a workplace that has so many rumors? People talk, you don't have to be part of it.
