You might not feel any contractions for a few days, but you probably will within a week. Call your OB/Gyn in the morning and let him know.
In all 5 of my pregnancies, I didn't lose my mucus plugs until my water broke, and that always happened in the hospital, even when I got there 20 minutes before the baby came.
Good luck with your New Year's baby!

Wait until you start having contractions or until your water breaks. Don't go to the hospital now the mucus plug is just a sign that labor is going to start soon it doesn't necessarily mean it will be today. Go for a walk maybe that can start your labor.. It worked for me. Good Luck and Congrats!!

According to "What to expect..." and "Your week by week pregnancy..." books, losing your mucus plug pretty much means that things are just moving in the right direction. You could have your baby in hours or you could have it in two weeks. A lot of people apparently think that this means labor is imminent but it just means your cervix IS dialating and thinning...but without contractions, the hospital will for sure send you home.
(Lost mine last week...still no baby)
**UPDATE** the "doctor" above also asks questions regarding how obsessed he is with "boobies", about meeting women and about using his wife's expensive shampoo on his bald head...a doctor of "what" is the real question...

Just let your dr know i had that happen to me 2 times the first time it took me days to go into labor and the second hours depending on your body, if there arent any contractions i wouldnt worry about it just make sure that you leave your house before or when your contractions are 5 min or so apart.

My child was three weeks late. The doctor told me it would be another week and I must have miscalculated (which I didn't as I wrote info down each month). I cried when he said another week.
That night went to dinner with husband and lost mucus plug..went into labor that night and delivered next day.

It's not necessary to go to the hospital. Some women loose it a couple weeks before the baby comes. It's just another sign that your body is getting ready. Congratulations!!!

yep you can lose your plug as early as 2 months before your due date.
sometimes it 'grows' back.
if your baby is still kicking--you arent in or near labor.
when you have contractions and the baby doesnt move afterwards--that is a good sign that you'll be going soon.
