How does one become a good illustrator?

I've never taken an art or drawing class or anything, but I'd like to learn how to become good at drawing. I'm thinking more along the lines of comic book style art. I have a couple books, but is there anything else I can do to learn to become a good artist?

Regardless of your drawing style, the most important thing you need to know is how to draw in perspective. There are good books (well, good enough); but if you just do an internet search for "perspective drawing" you will learn everything you need to know.

ive never taking an art class too, but i got the talnet i do children books and kid books alike ,there is a website that tells u how to become an illustrater , its for bigeners , first of all put names and picture charecters and how to draw those charcters according to there personalitiys in ur story , and u imagine how would u draw the good charecters and the bad ones , its easy with simple charcters in the biginging when it about good and evil but later u will get more visions about emboding complex ones ,and whenever an idea comes to ur mind do it on paper and dont just let it empresoned in ur brain , u will see it very clear on physical world and u will start from there .

Practice yes!! But put yourself out there as well. Contact art directors of magazines ( they usually list them at the index in the back) or spread word of mouth about yourself. My illustration teacher created postcards of her bast art and sent them to art directors. Create a resume and a strong, well-presented portfolio. Sometimes doing work for free might be nice if it brings you attention. A student at my school did theater posters for free and became famous that way. Put yourself out there and see where you stand and keep on drawing and painting. Be imaginative with your artistic ideas and think outside of the box

-Have a real interest on it.
- Be ready to spend some time on it.
- Spend time first practicing with doodles, sketches then with drawings.
- Then try with colors.
- With perspective and sizes.
- Finally with shadows and hightlights and then effects.

Practice, Practice, Practice... the only way, your hand and eye coordination will develop. Draw everything that you could see, don't focus on detail, but on the contour of the shapes. This is only one of ways, you will find your own way from there.

PRACTICE!!! whenever you start you are not going to be DaVinci so practice and starting out with tracing is a good way to kind of practice technique (even though i always thought of it as cheating, but,ya' know, thats me)
