This problem is not uncommon.

The most common cause is incompatible memory BRANDS (NOT TYPES) with certain motherboards (believe it or not).

The commenters' above I think are on the right track. I'd try just one brand of memory at a time to see if that identifies the problem. You can even test the memory with Microsoft memory diagnostic. http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp You create a floppy disk and boot off of it. I've found bad sticks, brand spankin new that were bad and corrupted the data on my newly installed OS.

Double check jumpers on the CD/DVD, check the ribbons one pins there and at the mobo. Check the boot order in the BIOS, plus how the CD player is read in the BIOs, primary/secondary slave/master. Recheck you mobo connections and jumpers, too, since it's a cherry.

Make sure that you have the latest BIOS installed on your motherboard. Also, make sure all the correct drivers are installed. Open your device manager and make sure there aren't any yellow exclamation marks, if there are the driver for a needed device may not be installed.
