This will be my first time filing my taxes on my computer. I file a 1040ez or 1040a, no kids, no property, single, no additional income outside of my job. What is the best software to use or does the IRS offer to file with them for free or do they offer free software? HELP!!!

You can use something like TurboTax - it's not free, but isn't very expensive. But if your return is simple enough to use 1040EZ, I wouldn't bother with the software, would just print off the form from irs.gov, fill it out, and mail it. If you have a refund coming and you have it deposited to your bank account, a mailed return takes about an extra week compared to e-filing.

Depending on your income, you might be eligible for the IRS "free file" - you can find more info on the irs.gov website. This would be an e-filing.

The IRS also has a program called VITA where trained preparers will prepare your return at no charge. Most sites can e-file the returns. There is info at irs.gov to help you find a site in your area. You are eligible for this if your income is less than around $38,000.

Quicken.com (TurboTax).... very good website to do your taxes and submit online. You can even get your refund electronically. Sorry, not free, but definitely less than an accountant.

I use this and it is awesome... it saves it on their server online.. you dont have to worry about it being lost on your computer... ever!

It is very user friendly. They just ask you questions interview style and fill everything out for you..

Good luck!
