hey guys! I was just wondering what products to use on face before putting any foundation on? I was talking to a sales lady at lancome the other day and she mentioned some type of liquid to put on face before applying any make-up to face so that the foundation would be smooth when applied to the face. Before I would just wash my face, put lotion on face, then apply my foundation..I didn't know that i had to use some face premier before applying foundation?

I use a great primer by philosophy....called the Present. I actually use it instead of foundation most of the time.

Most people really don't need to use a primer everyday. It does help makeup go on more evenly....but it's not really necessary unless you have really bumpy skin (due to acne or pock marks).

I know this sounds weird, but it works. I'm 25 and wish I had found it years ago.

Milk of magnesia as a primer under foundation or powder.

Cheap, easy, and SUPER effective at keeping my face matte for the majority of the day and my pores looking smaller. Nothing else has worked for me like milk of magnesia. It also makes the application of my makeup look even. I use it daily.

Just in case you are wondering, milk of magnesia is the laxative/antacid that you can buy at the drugstore. Commonly called Maalox or Phillips. You can buy a big bottle of generic ($4) and it works just the same. Milk of magnesia is a mineral and is not harmful to the skin. In fact, it is probably better than some of the more expensive primers which may have irritants that can cause dicoloration and breakouts. Milk of magnesia helps to calm skin and can even help to get rid of some of the bacteria in pores. The key is to apply a very thin layer before applying makeup. I suggest trying it before you make an expensive purchase. That Lancome lady is right though, primer does help make your foundation look more smooth.

You don't. The primer probably does help with setting the makeup, making it stay on longer. However, in my experience, the way you did it before was perfect! Clanse, moisturize, then foundation. By doing the moisturizer right before the foundation, you get a really smooth application of foundation.

Primer isn't a necessity. Just cleanse your skin to get the dirt off. Exfoliate to remove dead skin cells (or they'll just end up falling off throughout the day-- with your foundation!). And moisturize. Apply the foundation and set it with a dusting of loose powder.

she's talking about a primer, to even out any imperfections in the skin...

If it were me, I would just see about getting a mattifying cleanser or mosturizer and trying that first, primer may just be a little over kill...

a mattifying cleanser will reduce any shine and give a good base to apply make up to.

primer + foundation clogs pores! use foundation alone... you can never cover bumps just cover the redness, evey1 sees ur imperfections in direct sunlight even with makeup...just have confidence and act like u don't care abt ur imperfections and go makeup free!
