i'm almost 18 years old. My mom made an doctor's appt for me for a different reason for shortness of breath/heartburn symptoms, but something else has come up that I'd like opinions on.

My last period started about 2 weeks ago and ended about last week on Tues-Wed. About 4 days ago I started to notice some spotting when i weent the the bathroom. it was a brownish color, and today it increased in amount and it was more red. I'm also having cramps.

I'm pretty sure it's not an irregular period as i've had my period since i was 11. I've looked up stuff on vaginal discharge and infections, and nothing seems to match my symptoms/discharge. I have a boyfriend, but we're both virgins and we've done nothing except for hand jobs. Could this be an infection, pregnancy, or something else?

Also, could it be ovulation bleeding? I read about that, but I've never had it before or know anyone else who has it.

It could be a bacterial infection which doesn't necessarily come from intercourse. You can get a bacterial infection from douching, using strong soaps in your vaginal area, or simply just an overgrowth of bacteria.

If not that, you could just be ovulating which occurs on the 14th day after the 1st day of your period..that causes spotting as well. Hope that helped a little :)

one of the first ways the body responds to infections is by raising the temperature,.. but u dont have fever,.. (i guess)..
Besides vaginal dischages related to infections have distinguishing characteristics: fetide smell, whitish/green/yellow purulent colour..
the brownish color relates more to residual clots, specially if not abundant.
Pregnancy is very unlikely since you havent had sex.
you should take somthing for tha pain (cramps) and if it doesnt go away, go to your doc as soon as possible.

It could be a cyst has ruptured. If you are a virgin then there is no change it's a miscarriage. Best thing to do is check with your doctor.

if you haven't had sex then you can't be pregnant, it could be an infection or if you are on medication it could be a result of that. good thing you have doc's appt. just make sure you tell him/her everything
