I am having a child (due in April). We don't know the gender of the baby yet, but I am having difficulty with the naming process and was wondering what you think of naming a baby girl Morena.
It comes from my favorite Josh Groban song "Mi Morena."
If it's a boy, it'll be Shawn William. But, the girl... don't know. My husband likes the name Morena Emily, but I'm still unsure.

One more detail... I live in a suburb in Oklahoma... so, it's not hispanic or anything. I am really concerned with the name being mispronounced. Around here, that wouldn't be hard to do. Yet, my husband is still fighting for the name.

If you are worried about mispronunciation, change the spelling a bit to Morana. Looks and sounds a bit like Morgana actually. I like it. Good luck and congrats!

If you aren't sure about the name why don't you use it for the middle name?
It is cute but a little hard to pronounce. Would he compromise with a similiar name?
Marlena? Martina? Elena? Melania? Maya? Marina?

Well, all I can say is that (as far as I know) Morena means dark haired girl, in Spanish. It's a pretty name for a girl, and I like it, but to me Emily Morena sounds more fluid.
Keep in mind that if you live in a predominantly Hispanic area, she may be teased about it (it's in quite a few songs), or if you're in an especially white area, it might be mispronounced.

Morena literally means "brunette" in Spanish - to Puerto Ricans, Dominicans and Cubans it also means "Black girl" or "Black woman".
It's a nice name - and your White neighbors in Oklahoma probably won't have any idea what it means. But when your daughter grows up, if she moves to New York or Miami, people might think it's odd that a White girl has a first name like that.

Morena is the Spanish word for dark haired/dark skinned. Not that it matters. Just telling you. In my opinion, it's a pretty name and seems like a variation of Marina/Mauraina. Good luck!

Morena= dark haired, dark skinned. I don't like that name because I'm spanish and if I heard that name I'd cringe. I say pick Mariana⥠I think that's a nice name. (biased because that my name lol)

When I see Morena I automatically think it is pronounced like Marina. (Muh-ree-nuh). Which I really like, btw.
But I was surprised when I read that it is to be pronounced Mor-ana. I think that will be very confusing. If you want it prounounced that way I think that you should spell it that way.
