Depending on what game you play, sometimes it doesn't matter, but they'll consume a lot of your personal time. That's the main problem with MMO's. Also if you have children or don't like obscenities, you might wanna stay away from on-line multiplayer games, because people can be very hateful and mean in their choice of words. Most of the time if you're just starting out they don't hold back, even though you're new and know nothing about they game, they just like to put you down.

On the good side, it's a good way to test you skills in games you like, to see how good you really are. And it beats constantly playing single player games all the time, so it'll add a bit of extra game-play to the games you put money into buying.

I think it's more harmful than good because it's easy for people to get addicted to the game. With an off-line game, once you finish the game, that's it. You can play it only so many times before all the secrets and whatnot are found. But with MMORPG, the world is constantly changing, and the dungeon master are constantly adding new monsters, items, areas, etc. in the game, so there's no finishing the game.

Also, some people get lost between fantasy and reality. Some people start to believe that their fantasy world is their real world, which can be bad. A few people have died because they forget that in the real world, they need to eat and sleep, unlike their fantasy world where their characters can go on quests all night long without getting tired.

well they seem harmful because you have to pay for them and they hook you and you want ot keep playing them, but I play different MMORPG and am still completly sane. IT is a matter of control. If you are able to quit the game long enough to take care of the things you need to take care of then NO it is not harmful. By the way have you tried Dark Age of Camelot? It rocks.

I myself am an addict. But I do play FPS games as well as MMOs, and I can argue that MMOs improve your thinking standards. You have to plan, cooporate (The good ones) and execute all of your tasks, while shooters require a ton of teamwork and fast reactions to be any good. On the other hand, your health can be affected by this. But I find this side of the argument stupid and inneffective, as it would be a choice; Play games or watch TV.

How could they be harmful? They could be harmful to minors because of just the standard risks to younger people talking to strangers over the internet.

And.. if you get addicted. Hahaha. :P

But online society is just like any other society, though it's more strict and demanding.
