The odor of spoiled milk is traditionally very difficult to remove. Fortunately, there are some relatively simple (and inexpensive) solutions. The sooner you clean the smelly spot, the greater your chances of restoring a fresh scent to your house.

STEP 1: Blot up any remaining liquid with a towel.

STEP 2: Pour baking soda over the area where the milk was spilled.

STEP 3: Sprinkle cold water on top of the baking soda.

STEP 4: Let stand overnight.

STEP 5: Vacuum to remove baking soda.

STEP 6: If the smell remains, try treating the area with white vinegar. Let sit for 15 minutes, then blot excess vinegar with paper towels.

STEP 7: If vinegar fails to beat the stink, tackle it with an enzyme odor remover. These products use biological organisms that consume odors and can be found at stores that specialize in cleaning products.

STEP 8: Allow the area to dry completely: residual moisture can cause mildew. Use a hair dryer or fan if necessary, being careful not to scorch carpet fibers with a hair dryer.

Tips:
If the smell is limited to a floor mat, it might be easier to replace the mat with a new one.

If a substantial amount of milk has spilled and gone sour, or if the milk has soaked deeply into the seat or carpet, you may need to seek professional help.

The milk soaked through the back of the carpet into the padding and possibly reached the floor. To get the smell out, you will need to really soak the area with cleaner so that it goes through the back of the carpet into the padding and to the floor. I have had good luck with a cleaner/deodorizer called Nature's Miracle that you can get at any good pet store and possibly Wal-Mart. You need to basically pour this into the area where the milk was spilled, making sure that the cleaner soaks into an area a bit larger than where the milk soaked in. Rub and push the cleaner well into the carpet - its going to be really wet. Allow to soak for at least 30 minutes to an hour or according to label directions. Then you can either suck the cleaner up with a wet/dry vacuum or the carpet cleaning machine or lots of towels.

Bath towels - lay on spot and walk on them, soaking up majority of milk. Now take a few glasses of water and pour evenly around spilled area. Now, if you still have more dry towels, do the same as before. If you don't have anymore clean towels, then rinse out the wet ones in the bathtub, and wring them out as best as possible, and then soak up with them as before. You may need to repeat this process a few times. Use just plain water until you get most or all of the milk up.
This will get you started - then later get a carpet cleaner, or call a professional to spot treat the area. This should prevent a stain and odor.

Wow...tough one... I can only suggest trying to dilute the spill with water and keep absorbing the moisture. It's gonna smell, so get a carpet fragrance (like for pets) and keep putting it on.

There are places you can rent carpet cleaners. That's the best idea.

However you can dump a whole lot of baking sode on it wait for it to dry, then vacume, if the clumps are too big use a stiff brush to break them up first.

I have used a strong wet/dry vac. Mine is much stronger than even most carpet cleaning ones. It is one of the largest motors that Sears sells, very strong pull.

get a wet/dry vac. suck up the milk as much as you can. This sounds crazy but... dump a pitcher of water on it and suck it up, keep doing that , again and again.

if you dont have a wet/dry vac, use towels, many towels. Blot, dump water repeat. Thers's no use crying :)

If you lay towels on it and press on them DON'T rub it in press. It will absorb it and them pour some soapy water onto it and do the same thing with fresh towels it will take you a while but it will work
