When we moved in 10 yrs ago, there were NO trees and we had a nice view. Now we have two ugly trees to look at, planted so close to the rear wall that all the crap (not leaves...branches, bark, berries...) blows off the trees and straight into our yard and I'm continuously having to clean up. We had them trimmed back last year and the arborist said he didn't know why they planted them so close to the wall and that we'd have to have them trimmed back every 2 years or so. Nice that we get to spend $$ maintaining their trees when the neighbor's have yet had them properly trimmed.

First, check with Code Enforcement in your town/city. Usually it is within the office of the Building/Permitting Dept. Your local codes will give you your EXACT legal standing, re: what you can and cannot do.

Sympathy for the bad situation, and Good Luck.

If the neighbor's trees are hanging over into your property, in Texas it is legal for you to trim the encroaching branches. If the trees are in your neighbor's yard, why do you want to get rid of them?

If they hang over your property line, then you can remove the part of the tree that is hangs over on your property. If you reside in a subdivision w an association, contact them to see if they can do something about it. Also if the trees are diseased and they fall onto your property and cause damage, they are legally responsible for damage. If healthy it is considered an "act of God" and your insurance would pay for damage, as they have no liability if the trees are healthy... sorry I'm in insurance and see these problems all the time!! Good Luck!!

check with your association if you have one. an attorney if you can afford one or drive s metal pipe into the ground ( not to deep from your side) flush out dirt with water and fill with rock salt or tri-ox total vegetation killer ( or both> add water to pipe and allow to percolate into soil around tree's for a couple of days. remove pipes.. if the roots are on your property no foul ,if you drive pipes into their property you could get sued. most roots stay within 8 -12 inches below surface.it will take a month or so repeat as necessary. if the roots are damaging a wall that belongs to you or your drainage system they are responsible. personally i love tree's but i had to replace a clients entire french drain system because of his neighbors trees along with fencing. my client killed the trees in this manner so eventually the neighbor had to cut them down. try talking first making enemies of neighbors has led to many court battles and sometimes funerals.

Trees are a wonderful thing. I would rather have trees around for the benefits they provide, their beauty and the privacy they provide. Who are you to destroy some one else's beautiful property. They paid for the land and those trees, they own them, they can do as they please with the trees. Hope you have 'alot' of money if you damage your neigbor's trees, they could sue you.

Agent Orange. Seriously, they make several kinds of vegitation killer. This is be tougher than ususal since most of them are for grassy or leafy plants, not trees. There is one kind that is for "woodier" plants. Be careful with the spray, they will kill anything green and you don't want any evidence that you did it from your yard.

Shame on you....trees should never be more important than the relationship of good will with your neighbors....You exhibit the typical selfish nature of people these days.

Gonna be tough.
I'd suggest moving rather than offer something illegal on such a public space.
But you'd just get caught moving.

First of all it's illegal.

Would you like someone to cut down your fragrant lilies, or flowering cactus when you aren't around?

Pound 10-20 nails into the tree as far as you can. Eventually the trees will die.
