It doesn't NEED to cost that much, but as someone else pointed out, it can. It depends upon your complexity and functionality of the site, all the bells and whistles, and of course if you can do it yourself or not. A lot of web hosting firms will charge for and deliver some nice graphic designs and even flash presentations for that kind of money. You can get by with paying a lot less though and if your hiring out you may want to compare prices by submitting your project on an aggregator like Buyer Zone or something like that so you get several responses, bids and even ones that are local as well.

Do you mean for like a .com site. I am sure for some designs and software needed for applications, it may become expensive. But want to find out more try looking at like webnooze. Maybe to start a hosting business, but just for a site that seems too much. I think it is about $75 to register a domain name. Well that's how much it was last time I checked a few years ago. But that seems too much.

No, all you need is to design a page and get a host server. I did it for about 20 dollars, not 20 thousand. If you get the most advanced shopping cart, payment gateway, and java developers you could pay at the most $5,000 for a big e-commerce store.

That would be scary! You can get one for free at places like geocities, angelfire, and freewebs. Now, if you want to pay for things like ".com" or premium membership that is a different story. Now if you have paid for premium or something over time it **might** add up to that much. But for the beginner go to freewebs.com because you don't have to pay anything. I have an account and at the moment it has around 60-70 pages on it.

no, in most cases,
it only cost about $5 for the domain name
and then $15 per Mo. for a standard hosting plan
most of the time the domain name comes inclueded with the hosting plan
hope this helps

Most cable ISPs include at least 10MB of free space to post your own site.
Extra space is dirt cheap if you need it, & writing basic HTML can be learned in a matter of hours.
I think you are referring to being your own ISP.... having the T lines dedicated with your own servers along with hardware firewalls, etc .....
.... yes...correctly done that could easily run you $20K +.

of course not.
all you need is to register the domain name (10 bucks a month or even cheaper), just search for domain names. most of these domain supplies will include a web page builder and you can build the page yourself

It could cost that much, but you can go to www.godaddy.com and start for a very small fee. You can build your own basic website at www.websitetonight.com

no it is typically a monthly, quarterly, or yearly fee (as for which one you will need to figure out yourself) of $50 for a small website using an existing domain (I dont remember any names at the moment but they do exist)
