I seek to become a Mambo and learn how to perform correct, authentic initiation ceremonies, and Ito do divination (readings), work charms, prescribe herbal baths, and assist people to construct altars, make food offerings, and other ritual activities. Is this a joke? The real God is so much more powerful than your voodoo could ever hope to be. No dances, no rituals, no spells, and no killing chickens required.
To answer your question though....any "religion" that would require you to break from your family to follow is called a cult. They should be avoided at all costs. Your soul is at stake here. Choose wisely.

Its really wrong, you have to realize that your family knows best, if they are pain in the neck they will stick to you because you have the same blood and genes. Most especially, engaging yourself to a voodoo group or other kind of witchcraft is a sin or against the commandments of God. By the end of time, God will still prevail.

To my knowledge, voodoo is a form of witchcraft, and gets its spiritual power outside of the realm of God. You'd be opening yourself up to demons.
Please don't do it, not because of your family's traditions, but because of your own sake.
