I work for a charter school and most of the new teachers are in alternative teaching degree and waiting to get certified.

Some are great and some are not.

I am a teacher's aide for Pre-k ages 3-5 The teacher that I aide for has her degree and is certificate. This is her first year teaching. She has no patience for children, she screams at them, and this is the best part "she instructs but she don't teach them. She spends a lot of time on her computer and not with the children. She has never showed them how to hold a pencil, she has never spent any "one to one" showing them how to write their name. In fact we have children that was so scared of her that they cling to me "she wonders why."

Experience is the only way a teacher is successful.

Student teachers and new certified teachers are in the same boat.

That is why I decided to work as an aide to get experience while I am finishing my degree to be a teacher.

As for the teacher that I work with, she does not need to be a teacher at all. She does not like children especially the Pre-k I know she does not like the older kids because she helped with the after school programs and the kids had some bad comments about her.

I think all student teacher should work as aides or with an experience teacher for their first year.

I wished our state would have a program for all 1st year teaching that all new teachers needs to work with an experience teacher to help these new teachers get some experience. This would help with retention.

Have a Great Day!

Well, they have to learn somehow. Would you rather a brand new teacher be hired without having had any experience at all teaching in the classroom?

Student teachers become teachers.

No student teachers = no more teachers

Almost every student teacher I've ever had seemed overwhelmed by the workload and not prepared, but we need them.

Well, how else are you supposed to gain experience? You can't just be thrown in a classroom of your own. Some are horrible, and some just have that knack for teaching. Either way, it's needed.

When I was a kid, I like them because they're not yet teachers. I like to tease them.
