We all know that Saddam Hussein was a villain. However, taping and showing any person’s execution is disturbing to say the least. We aren’t living in the olden days when executions were considered a form of entertainment. So why should cameramen be allowed at the gallows? How low can you get?

In Iraq taping executions was a long standing tradition, but the tape is owned by the government. They may support showing stills or bits of the movie however, to reinforce that Saddam is finally dead. They are certain to show a post-mortem photo, as they did his sons when they were killed.

I don't know what to say here. I personally do not want to see a person get hanged "for real" on television. I have my limits when it comes to reality t.v. Yet, I do understand that public executions are a way of life in Iraq. Who am I to judge? Either way, on t.v. or not, Saddam will die on his appointed date. It really doesn't matter who watches and who doesn't.

In America they have people that volunteer to go to state prisons to witness executions. It is an important part of the legal process. I don't think I will be signing up for that witness program anytime soon.

Anyway...
Take Care

Supposedly it is being done because they said the Iraqi people would not believe it otherwise. I dont know about that, i give them more credit. To say they wouldnt believe Saddam is dead is kinda like saying they are stupid or backwards.
Regardless, i know how they could pay for the war. Put this execution on PPV, the money they would rake in would more than pay off the war.

No. Saddam's actions were morally reprehensible and the people who suffered at his hands should be allowed to see their former dictator dead. If you had suffered at the hands of this man, you would want to see him dead as well. It provides a sense of closure.

I totally agree. Death is not something to be celebrated and those that act like a bunch of blood thirsty ambulance chasers are as guilty as the condemned himself.

Those citizens need confirmation that it was actually done----that's how corrupt things are over there. They won't show them the actual hanging, but I suspect they will show them (and us) then beginning and then photos of him dead.

They deserve to KNOW that it happened and this is the only way to do that.

we never left the dark ages.. lol

We deserve to see it, that doesnt mean its entertainment.

America needs to see proof we did the job, our soldiers need to see it.

The near 3000 people that died in combat would love to know their brothers in arms did the job and they got to watch it happen because some one else couldnt.
