No liberals are going to claim that although Saddam was evil, he shouldn't have died. If he was executed, he would go down as a martyr in the eyes of many Iraqis. This will create additional anti-Americanism in the middle-east, helping with terrorist recruiting, and making our job in Iraq much harder. If he were to be treated fairly, it would improve the US image in the eyes of the rest of the world, gaining us widespread support in the war on terror, both among our allies and in the Middle East. The US should have shown Saddam and the Iraqis that we don't do things Saddam's way and that we are far more civilized.
Saddam was already not in a position to hurt anyone else so, by killing him, we weren't preventing any more deaths. Saddam may even have been in a position to help the US. For example, in exchange for Saddam's life, the US could have convinced him to help us settle the violence in Iraq by asking his remaining loyalists to stop the terrorism.
Like Gandhi said, an eye for an eye makes the world blind. Saddam's execution was purely for revenge. This only fuels the cycle of anger and violence.

I am a liberal, and I believe the world is better off with Saddam Hussein DEAD, I am only afraid of the possible repercussions to the USA even though we weren't the ones who executed him.
And no Hussein killed thousands of innocent people because they did not follow his agenda

Some probably will . . . but as a conservative I ask you, how many people did Saddam kill exactly and how does this compare to other dictators the US supports/supported? What is the magic number before we exact frontier justice on them? Who will we hang next ? Who's on your list?
