First, learn the art of search engine optimization. Plenty of websites can help you with this. Learn how to use "meta tags"
Next off, the page rank philosophy is true: more websites linking to your website gives you better ranking. http://payperpost.com can get you some cheap, but worthwhile public relations that will instantly get you people looking at your website and an increased ranking in the search engines.
Make sure that you're listed on every directory website you can find, and publicize yourself on blogs!

If you need help a great company to use is submitnet.net. It will walk you through the process and teach you how to do it yourself. I have used them to get listed in the top ten on many pages.
You need to look at your key words. Do you have at least 3 - 4 of these key words on a page and in the titles?

You really only have two choices: pay to be there or through natural search results.
