I have found that the dryer fades my clothes and have stopped drying most of our clothing including jeans. I wash them in cold water (try turning them inside out as well) and then put them in the dryer for about 15 minutes on air fluff. Then I hang them up to dry. Our clothes have lasted much longer since we have stopped drying them completely. I haven't tried the special detergents, but I imagine if you combine a non-fading detergent with cold water and air drying, your jeans may retain their color longer. Good luck!

Wash them in cold water on the delicate cycle only using a mild detergent like dreft, or ivory.
Also, you can always refresh your jeans by dying your older jeans. Just buy navy blue rit dye and you can dye the jeans to look new again.

Turn them inside out
don't wash for a long time if they're not visibly dirty (I use a 2-3 minute cycle)
Don't put them in the dryer

I wash mine in cold water, and the more you dry them, the more they will fade, so half way dry them, then hang them out.
