Ive had a Urinary tract infection for 5 weeks. The first time i went to the e.r. and they put me on cypro.... went back to the doc a week later and still had the infection and they put me on cypro again, later the infection was still there so i went to the doc again and they put me on bactrium, they even did a culture to make sure the bacteria wasnt resistant to the antibiotic. I just finished the bactrium, my third round of antibiotics, and i STILL feel the infection there!! I plan on seeing MY doc this week but does anyone have a clue whats going on with me?? I mean isnt it really bad to have an infection for so long, and to be on so many antibiotics??

I have kidney problems, therefore, uti prone. I hope you have an appt set already. Sounds like you could stand seeing a specialist, I would recommend pressing your doc for a referral.

In the meantime, take some cranberry extract. Don't drink the juice from concentrate that is full of sugar, go to the heath food store and get the good stuff. And don't be drinking a ton of crap like sodas or coffee. Stick to water (60 oz a day) and natural juices until you get a hold on the situation and get it cleared up.

good luck and i hope i helped.

If you keep getting the same antibiotics your body may have built a tolerance to them which means they wont to the same job for your body that they once did. I've had 2 urinary tract infections and the rules to getting rid of them firstly are
1) Finish your full course WITH WATER.
2) Take your medicine at the same time every day.
3) Sort out your diet
4) Until the uti is gone dont eat or drink citrus fruits such as cranberries.
5) Increase your water intake (this makes a huge difference)
6) Give your body a rest. If it hurts, walking around wont make it better.
7) Pee when you have to. Holding in urine for a long time increases the chances of UTI's.
Good luck! I was in your position around last week!

This happened to me when I was in my mid-20's. I had chronic cystitis. It was my fault as I did not finish my first round of antibiotics and never killed all the bacteria. So don't do what I did. I had a cystoscopy (under anesthesia out patient to make sure I did not have interstitial cystitis) and I also had a dilitation (they open the size of your urethra with tubes). That was painful so ask them to use numbing gel if they do that. Drink a lot of cranberry juice- it really helps and helps to prevent future ones. If you are sexual always pee before and after sex. You may have a small urethra and its size does not totally let the normal bacteria be expelled. I finally got rid of it after 2 years or so. But you probably won't have to wait that long as you got it quick. Go to a Urologist and he/she will have to check you out down there and perhaps you will have to have a cystoscopy. No, it is not good to be on antibiotics so long and for that eat a lot of yogurt which helps put the good bacteria back into you that the antibiotics kills. Your condition is not that uncommon. I had no side effects from the condition nor being on antibiotics for over a year. Lay off the sex until it clears up. Good luck.

If the antibiotics aren't cutting it you might want to add a couple of things to your regimen.

1. Cranberry juice. Not your typical grocery store sugar laden brand...the 100% unsweetened juice that makes your eyes water...ack! tart! But very effective. There is something in the chemical makeup of cranberry that keeps bacteria from sticking to the bladder wall and will work with the antibiotics in clearing it up. Drink it frequently throughout the day a few ounces at a time. You can find it at your local Whole Foods or health store.

2. D-Mannose. I've had a few friends state that this product helped them recover from really stubborn uti's. Supposedly it's both stronger than cranberry and easier to take. I think that its available at health food stores and some online retailers.

Other than that, drink lots and lots of water in order to keep a good flow through your bladder and kidneys. Bacteria thrive in more "stagnant" environments. Also, on a side note, I'd follow up that Cipro with some good plain yogurt or kefir. (preferably a brand that's organic and promises lots of live cultures) That stuff is hard on your intestine's natural flora.

urinary tract infection or any infection can go away without outside medicine since the body is a self-healing organism. cranberry juice, unsweetened, (kind of sour) can be helpful. garlic and echinacea are good herbs for infections and so is vitamin c. i personally am all for avoiding anti-biotics and finding a natural way when possible. that said, a uti is one of the few things that i WILL go straight to a doctor and get a prescription for. the pain and discomfort are not worth waiting for relief from and i've had enough to know, that for me, an anti-biotic is the quickest most effective way to feel better. either way. good luck.

You need to see a specialist, this is not normal. It should have been gone by now, which means it could be something a lot more serious than just a urinary tract infection.

If you can be pregnant or if you have infertility problems I reccomend to follow this method http://pregnancy.toptips.org

Many factors can cause a couple trouble in conceiving a baby, I'll list a few of the most common ones in women:
Anorexia or other dietary dysfunctions
Lacking amounts of FSH and LH are produced, so ovaries aren't as functional as they could be, and so not many eggs are produced
Stress, causing periods to become irregular
Medications such as cancer treatments, antidepressants, hormone therapy, pain killers, and antipsychotic drugs can all cause temporary infertility.

With the method that I posted above you will be able to get pregnant!

That same thing happened to me - thought I would die, and sometimes wished I would. I did the antibiotics (three times), drank gallons of water and cranberry juice, and nothing helped. Then someone told me to drink as many beers as I could as fast as I could. I was so desperate by then that I tried it. I downed four Coors in about five minutes. I actually had to crawl to the bathroom. But the relief was immediate and wonderful. I haven't had a UTI since, but I still keep a six-pack in the fridge for emergencies. Truly, this really worked. Same thing happened to my sister-in-law, who works in a hospital and believes that medicine is the only way to cure anything. I told her about the beer thing and she turned up her cute nose at the suggestion. After five weeks of cypro, and a good bit of pain later, she called me at 2 a.m. and asked if I had any beer. Being the sweet person I am, I drove it over (at friggin 2 a.m.) and she drank one, and by golly one worked for her. Amazing cure for a UTI...Hope you feel better soon, cause I know first had how bad you feel now.

There are some strains of VD that are resistant to antibiotics. Sometimes they will use 2 types simultaneously. Also you must avoid anything that may reintroduce that infection. Wash often. Drink plenty of water. Sometimes herbal remedies work, but this is much more serious than herbals can fix.
