I am going to assume you meant short tons, in which case it would be 4.5 x 2000 = 9000 pounds.
Tons can also mean long tons or metric tons.

Use the conversation rate. 1 ton = 2000 pounds.
So 4 1/2 tons
= 4.5 tons
= 4.5 x 2000 pounds
= 9000 pounds
